2003 Rover - Austin CityRover Solo 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Very unhappy with our purchase

Faults:

Been back to the dealer twice a misfire. The first time the dealer fobbed us off and said there wasn't a problem. The second time they discovered that it was an ECU computer fault. Had to wait two months for a new ECU.

Dashboard rattles.

Poor quality of paintwork finish.

Faulty stereo had to be replaced.

General Comments:

Unreliable and badly made.

The standard of build on our car was atrocious. The paintwork was patchy with overspray on rubber seals. Body panels lined up badly. Interior is made of cheap brittle plastics.

Handling is not good with lots of body roll and understeer.

Bad driving position. You sit in a sit-up-and-beg position.

Only good points is that the engine provides reasonable performance and it is fairly spacious.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I agree, it is a poor car, and it is as bad as James May on Top Gear said.

I bought a Tata Indica in India and have driven 62000 kilometers on Indian roads.

Despite the build quality and handling, I would give the car thumbs up on performance, space and fuel efficiency.

At least the car does not sway like the Merc A class-170 which I am driving at present in Germany.

I have recently purchased a Cityrover Style for my wife, and to be honest I am very pleased with it. You must remember that this car is built as a 'city' car, and for this purpose it is fine. The spec on the 'Style' model is second to none, and in its class it is very spacious. I have driven it on many occasions, and have not heard any rattles from the dash etc. and the handling is fair. It's not a car that I would like to drive for miles on a motorway, but then I didn't buy it for that. I have a Vectra as a company car, but I frequently use the rover to 'nip' into town.
