1979 SAAB 900 Turbo 2.0 turbo from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

My favourite SAAB

Faults:

Water pump leaks - had to replace 4 times. The water pump is embedded in the engine (B20 engine) and driven by the idler shaft. Therefore, it costs lots of money.

Oil leaks are quite prevalent and unstoppable.

Saab dealer does not have any parts for this car (nor inclined to help), therefore I need to seek AFT or used parts.

It has stranded twice - fuel pump relay and fuel pump failure. Otherwise, most other replacements are commensurate with their age - two turbo's, alternator, power steering, CV boots, front suspension bushes and joints, and a heater control valve.

General Comments:

This is a great car, it is now 32 years old, and I love it. Jewel Green with green velour interior. It has the TRX 390 alloy wheels (tyres are hard to find).

It has lots of memories - Honeymoon, babies, driving lessons, furniture (massive load space), bricks, gardening, rubbish tip, and of course daily commuter to work and school.

Meanwhile, I have had 4 other SAABs.

Still on its original engine; just make sure I change the oil every year. She's tough except for the water pump.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
