2003 Saturn ION from North America

Summary:

Bucket of bolts

Faults:

We have been having the cold start problem starting with the first winter. When we took it in, they always said they couldn't find anything wrong with it.

In the winter of 2008 I bought a new battery, even though the repair place said my battery was still good. It didn't help -- still not start when cold. I've decided to sell the car, so took it in one more time for this problem and they said I needed a new ignition switch. GM refused to help pay for it. It cost $266.

The car is going in the classifieds this weekend, and I will never buy a GM car again (They just filed bankruptcy - no wonder!!)

2003 Saturn ION Quad Coupe 2.2 Ecotec from North America

Faults:

I have had a few front end problems with the car. As well as an ignition problem; causing it not to start.

Found out the reason it would not start, was some ignition security thing, that if you let it sit for like 10 minutes and try again, they told me it would usually start if it happened again. That's what the Saturn dealer told me.

2003 Saturn ION from North America

Summary:

This is an inexpensive, functional car

Faults:

Solution to Cold Start Problem described by others.

General Comments:

My mechanic and I struggled with solving the issue of ignition switch clicking and car not starting. To solve, turn ignition switch to ON, and the "security light" will blink for a few seconds and then go OFF. Then, and only then, attempt to start the car. This should work - it works for me every time, no matter the temperature out. This was a very frustrating issue. The instruction manual should be more clear.

2003 Saturn ION 2 2.2 from North America

Summary:

Piece of garbage!

Faults:

When I first got this car, I was in love. After a few months had gone by, I had slowly started to wonder what I got myself into?

Within the first year I've had to replace normal wear and tear things such as brakes, tires, rotors, etc. Then it started.

I've had the car about 3 years and have had to replace the exhaust system.

The lock fell into my door on the drivers side, so I had to take that in to get fixed.

I hit a bump one day, and my windshield cracked from one side to the other, and now... The biggest problem, which I don't have the slightest clue on what is wrong with it, and even after taking it into the mechanics 4 times, just this winter is the car won't start in cold weather. Sometimes it won't even start in semi-cold weather.. Ex: 40 F. This issue obviously needs recalled, but I don't think Saturn understands the meaning of "Customer Service" and "Keeping their customers happy"

General Comments:

Ugly interior!

2003 Saturn ION 3 from North America

Summary:

A cheap pile of plastic crap

Faults:

I have had starting problems with this car since I bought it new in 2003. I brought it back to the dealer in 2004, its first winter, and they told me it was the brain in the computer, and this was not covered by the warranty. They said that I hit the odometer with something, and that is why the plastic on the front of the odometer was cracked. What a crock. They also never gave me the old computer and said they had thrown it away.

I had the brain replaced, and that plastic has already cracked due to vibration and cold weather. It was $700 plus tax. The next cold season, the same problem.

I replaced the battery 3 times. I still have the same problem. I have to wait 10-15 minutes after attempting to start the car before it will turn over. Saturn is no help at all. I want to sue and am looking at class action. Never again GM.

General Comments:

Saturn should be ashamed of themselves for this problem. Cheap wiring, and to re-wire this car they want 2500. I am really sorry that people are losing jobs, but if you put out a product like this you need to lose your job.

Saturn in Detroit are no help at all. As a consumer I am very angry, and have missed work and lost money because of this problem, on top of the repairs that were unwarranted.

I am going to contact the media in the area and see if they cannot help me with this problem. I have had enough.

I drive a 2003 Saturn Ion, and I have had the same problems, and also with the tag light and headlights also. These cars are not worth the purchase. You have to replace everything on them.
