1995 Saturn SC SC1 from North America

Summary:

Not a head-turner, but reliable and fun

Faults:

I've had to replace various parts, but virtually all of it has been basic wear and tear.

My roof leaks a bit from the sunroof.

General Comments:

I have maintained this car as well as possible -- servicing it every 3,000 miles. At 94,000 miles, I switched to synthetic oil, and I recently got 39 mpg highway.

Aside from basic wear & tear such as serpentine belt replacement, I haven't had any servicing issues. I have been thoroughly pleased with the performance and value from this car. I paid it off years ago, so driving it has been an incredible bargain.

Since I'm short, 5' 2", I appreciate that there's not a bad blind spot.

Summary:

A economic sound car that will earn you compliments

Faults:

The only problem I ever had was the alternator went bad because of a dead battery.

General Comments:

This car was awesome looking and driving. This is my all time favorite car from just driving it. I like it better than ANY car out there. It was unbelievable.

Hmm, I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure your ALTERNATOR went bad CAUSING your battery to die. that sounds much more likely.

1995 Saturn SC SC2 1.9 from North America

Summary:

Not as great as they claim to be

Faults:

I had several problems with the wiring components on this car. The passenger side airbag deployed one afternoon when I went out and cranked the car, it was just sitting there and WOOF it was out.

General Comments:

I was very disappointed with this car, even more with the dealership. When I bought this car I went to get another Geo Prizm because I knew that was a very dependable car since I had had one previously. Well I guess I let the guy talk me into the Saturn, he said it was a better brand than Geo cars... That my friend was a lie. I had had my 1989 Prizm for years and was yet to have a problem with it. Luckily I kept the Saturn junk for a year and went to another dealershiop in the next county and bought my 1997 Prizm like I wanted to start with. These cars aren't as great as they claim to be, and why on earth the Geo name has been dropped and Saturn is still around is beyond me.

My dad owned a purple 1993 Saturn SX2. When we first got it, it didn't want to start. So we had the spark plugs changed and it started up like a new car!

My dad's girlfriend paid for it before checking it out to see if anything else was wrong with it. We drove it home and found out that the muffler and exhaust pipe needed to be lifted. We drove it on the highway and found out that it COULDN'T GET PAST 90 miles per hour! We took to the shop and had the owner before us come in and he told us that when he had the car it was perfect! He told us that he had an accident, and after that he never changed the oil on time, and that he drove it badly.

So we kept the car for a long time and I liked the style of it that year. One day my dad opened the trunck and couldn't get it to lock shut, so we had to go get it repaired! My dad's girlfriend drove and the front spoiler broke and we had to have that repaired!

Since we lived in Youngstown Ohio, we had to put a club on the steering wheel to keep it from being stolen. So my dad was removing it and cracked the front windshield. We took it to to a window repair company and after that the seatbelt on the driver's side worked when it felt like it.

When we got it, it started to smoke! My dad woke up and started the car and the engine started to clunk. The shop said the one of the twin cams had chipped or something. We had it fixed and maybe a month later it got louder and smoke even louder than the first time. If I remember right, I think it started to leak oil!

In some places it had rust, but after all the trouble, my dad had left it with a friend to get something to eat and when he came back the car was gone! He called and had it reported, and they found it on the Eastside and they drove it in the woods and ran the middle of it into a tree! They put dents all over the car, stole the cassette radio player, took the speakers, ripped the seats, took the alloys and the tires, stole the battery, and busted the windows! The damage was so bad they took it and wrote it as totaled! My grandfather bought a brand new unused Gold 2000 Saturn L-series 200, and we've never had a problem with it!

We now have a Red 1996 Saturn S-series L1 and we've only had three (3) problems with it, but now it drives great! We might buy a third one!
