1998 Saturn SL 4 cly 1.9 liter from North America

Summary:

Saturn's are poorly manufactured

Faults:

I had to replace the EGR Valve three times.

The doors seals leak and air blows in.

Engine runs very rough.

The entire car vibrates when in idle.

General Comments:

The cab of the vehicle is to small and paint job scratches very easily.

1998 Saturn SL 1 from North America

Summary:

Good cars for 100,000 miles ONLY!

Faults:

My car was wonderful until 102,000 miles.

At this point my radiator completely cracked within 3 days.

My clutch was almost gone.

My transmission was loosing 1 and 2 gear.

The cloth seats have worn badly.

The plastic trim does not wear well at all.

General Comments:

I think my car was wonderful until it hit 100,00 miles.

I just did basic maintenance to it with no major costs.

Now I have put 2,100 dollars into the radiator, clutch, and trans. And it is still not running well.

Once we have one thing fixed then the check engine light comes back on for one reason or another. It obviously does not liked to be worked on.

Good cars for 100,000 miles!

1998 Saturn SL from North America

Summary:

I have lost trust and faith in Saturn, as it failed prematurely

Faults:

Total transmission failure is the most serious issue, this occurred at 78,000 miles.

General Comments:

I'm not sure what you're asking here - it doesn't sound like you're asking for details; if you are interested in the history of the problem and the maintence I have given the automobile. I have it.

1998 Saturn SL SL2 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A huge disappointment

Faults:

What has gone wrong with this car? More than I would have liked to deal with.

The interior light wouldn't work unless you smacked the roof, after which it would just hang from the ceiling, still not functioning.

A crack in my coolant case caused a smoking exit from the drive-thru line and nearly $200 out of my pocket.

The driver side and passenger side mirrors had to be replaced.

The front brakes went suddenly at 100,000 kilometres.

My alternator went causing the battery to be drained and another $380 out of my pocket.

The most recent is the check engine light that won't go off. Apparently the transmission sensor is malfunctioning causing the check engine light to turn on and off at it's discretion. However the biggest problem with this is the constant stalling and the inability of the car starting.

General Comments:

This car was a real disappointment!!!

I will never buy another Saturn again and would urge others to do the same.

This car has given me nothing, but grief.

There are only a few good things I can say about this car. It looks good both inside and out. The factory sound system isn't half bad. And the one thing that hasn't broken and works at or above standards is the a/c.

Wow, we all have similar problems, my check engine light goes on for a bit then off then on again constantly and "apparently" there was nothing wrong. MY ASS, I'm stuck with a broken head gasket now and oil in my coolant that over flows. Real piece of JUNK!

My 1998 Saturn SL1 now has 210000 miles on it, and I have done little more than oil changes to it, a brake job, and tires.

This is a great car if treated with respect and proper maintenance. I have a friend that turned me onto this car line because of his good luck with a SL2 195000 miles, and the story as far as the reliability.

1998 Saturn SL 1 1.9 SOHC from North America

Summary:

I will NEVER buy another Saturn as long as I live

Faults:

The engine has been replaced 4 times due to cracked cylinder heads.

The transmission has been replaced twice and rebuilt once.

I have gone through 5 radiators and they have all split in the same spot on the top driver's side.

The computer has had issues since day one since the check engine light will come on for no reason at random and so will the wipers.

The clutch has been replaced twice and it has just recently failed. I don't know why yet, but I think it's either the clutch master cylinder or the throw bearing cause the clutch will not disengage.

General Comments:

It's a cheap car in more ways than one.

It's cheap to feed (I can get 700km to a 40L tank if I use Ultra 94 octane).

Major replacement parts seem to be hard to find for this car which seems odd considering it's a domestic.

Terrible for stereo systems. Every plastic panel rattles as soon as you turn up the volume.

Leave it to GM. They kill off Oldsmobile and keep Saturn. Stupid!
