2012 Skoda Superb SE Plus 1.6 TDi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A lot of car for the money

Faults:

The car has been looked after, serviced to the letter. At the last MOT I had the brake pads and front discs renewed. Suspension wise rear springs were replaced. Cam-belt has also been done. Basically nothing other than wear and tear.

Fault wise, the DPF light came on briefly, but a firm drive cleared it out. No major faults, cosmetically the car is also looking good, though a small rust spot has appeared at the rear boot corner, but it is 9 years old now and past the 100K mark so I can expect such things. Driver's door handle feels a little stiff.

General Comments:

What a good looking luxurious car for a good price, this is still one of the best used cars you can buy, I love my Skoda Superb. Not as refined as my previous Honda Accord, but very nice to ride in and drive. Interior has loads of space. Outside looks great with the alloy wheels and blue metallic paint.

The 1.6 TDi is lethargic and not really suited to a car of this size, if buying again I would say go for the 2.0 TDi. This does return a solid 60 MPG to make up for the lack of performance however.

All models are well equipped, even base models. My SE Plus has half leather and electric everything. This car's interior really is like much more expensive luxury cars you could get back in the day. I look forward to every journey, even though actually driving the car is not particularly fun, but is just so nice to be in. Climate controls are a little fiddly but you get used to it.

If you drive a Skoda Octavia or something similar, the Superb is a great choice and a good step up.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Same, I wouldn't touch the smaller engines on these cars. Yes the economy is great, but the bigger diesels like the 1.9 and 2.0 TDi can manage 50+ MPG with much better performance, so it is well worth it. Same for petrol, don't be fooled by the smaller 1.0 and 1.2 petrol engines available on the Superb's smaller brother the Octavia. I have driven them, yes you can get 40 or even 50 MPG out them which for petrol is excellent, but you are far better off with the bigger petrol engines also, much better performing while still managing around 40 MPG as well.

If economy is a must, the later Octavia's from 2013 onward can manage an amazing 70 MPG with the 1.6 diesel, not too slow either, and the Superb version can probably do the same or high 60's MPG on a good day, but again I bet the newer 1.6 still feels slow in the bigger Superb.
