2013 Skoda Superb Elegance 2.0 TDi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Stunning big car for the money

Faults:

I have replaced mostly just wear and tear items expected of age and miles over the years. The only real problem was a failed electrical relay which required an auto electrician to trace it as it was constantly failing, and there is a small oil leak from somewhere now. I have also serviced the DSG auto box - essential if you want trouble free operation. The engines cam-belt was also changed. All oil services every year as well. The car was bought approved used with full dealer history.

General Comments:

What a fantastic car for the money - the Superb is like a luxury sedan at budget car running costs.

Gorgeous interior, Elegance model has the lot. Very comfortable. Beige leather is a pain to keep clean though!

2.0 TDi with the auto box blunts performance and economy a bit, but not significantly so. I can still get 45 - 50 mpg on diesel and the car has a decent turn of speed. Though some may prefer the manual transmission, the DSG box is actually really good as well.

OK to drive, nothing exciting, but it is a luxury cruiser.

They are a bit overpriced to buy on the used market, but find a nice one and you have a great car. My car is dark red with massive alloy wheels and I never tire of looking at it or driving it.

2013 Skoda Superb S Estate 1.6 TDi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent value

Faults:

Service and not much else!

General Comments:

Huge car, and a huge amount of value for money! The Superb is excellent, I like mine so far.

S model is rather basic but it still has enough interior features for me. The car is very spacious and comfortable. Estate car is well worth it over the saloon - this car was meant to maximize space and comfort, and it does that pretty much perfectly.

1.6 TDi is very economical (over 50 mpg on average no matter how you drive) but does not have enough power for the size and weight of the car. Daily driving on motorways is OK, but it gets really noticeable in hilly urban areas. 2.0 TDi would probably be a better choice, especially if you carry passengers and luggage a lot.

But this car was in too good condition to pass up. I hope to have it a long time, cheap tax and insurance and for over 10 years old it still feels super modern.

2013 Skoda Superb Laurin & Klement 2.0 TDI from Luxembourg

Summary:

Love it. I will probably buy Skoda Superbs for the rest of my life

Faults:

SEVERE: None

NON-SEVERE:

155k km: Remote heater doesn't work despite attempts to fix it by removing error codes. Not fixed, not worth changing.

164k km: Electric luggage compartment opening needs replacing. 900 EUR.

NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR:

- Chips in front windshield.

- Brake pads and discs as usual.

- Battery.

General Comments:

I will probably buy Skoda Superbs for the rest of my life. Coming from a very unreliable and fragile Renault Laguna 2.2 dci, the upgrade in reliability is ridiculous. I have a car that works and that I can forget about when I am not driving.

Also, I personally like how understated it is vs the actual equipment and comfort.

RELIABILITY: Nothing to worry about in 5 years.

DRIVING: It drives and handles well for a car this size. It is more powerful than I need. I really like the DSG transmission, it's flawless. I am happy with the engine, but I would probably be happy with any engine, as I don't need much.

EQUIPMENT: The equipment on LAURIN & KLEMENT is the best available in the product. Call outs are:

- Heated and ventilated seats in front.

- Heated seats in the back, a favorite of my kids in winter.

- Bluetooth works really well.

- Electrical seats in front.

The only extra I would miss is (a) keyless entry and (b) rearview camera.

PRACTICALITY:

Seats: I am 183cm, and the space is great both in front, but specially in the rear seats which are incredibly spacious for adults, especially legroom.

Luggage space is enormous. Excellent for a family of three kids.

RUNNING COSTS: Probably the cheapest for a car this size.

Well written review, these are good cars, I know taxi drivers that love these and will buy nothing else but Octavias and Superbs - most economical reliable cars you can get.

A few years ago the Superb and the Octavia made up 75% of private taxi's in my town, which is a good sign of reliability; most had 150K miles + on them running fine.

Right now on the used market, you won't get a better car for the money.
