2001 Subaru Impreza RS 2.5L from North America

Summary:

Pocket rocket to go!

Faults:

Only 2950 miles. Nothing wearing out yet. Gas mileage seems to be improving the more I use it.

General Comments:

Great handling. Seats keep you in place during spirited driving. Don't like the trunk lining - cheap plastic milk carton material. A trunk light is on my wish list.

Mechanically, this vehicle is outstanding, and I would trust driving it through any type of environment or weather. Two thumbs up for the Subaru engineers!

2001 Subaru Impreza RS 2.5L normally aspirated from North America

Summary:

Get one and visit www.rallispec.com

Faults:

Check engine light came on recently. I disconnected the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes, and the light does not come on any more (I reset the sensors).

General Comments:

I did the following modifications to the car when I got it:

- Rallispec air induction (www.rallispec.com)

- Brospeed exhaust (dealer).

- Short throw shift kit (dealer).

- Strut tower brace (dealer).

- Whiteline anti-sway bar (Rallispec).

With these additions, the car handles like a high end sports car. The all wheel drive is an absolute blast to drive. I'm running around 185 horsepower without a turbo!

2001 Subaru Impreza GX 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Subaru have done the impossible and made a great car even better

Faults:

Nothing...

General Comments:

I've just had a test drive in the all-new 2001 Impreza GX. WOW!!

I've been driving an Impreza for the last 5 years, but the new model beats the pants off the old one!

Superb comfort and excellent interior design, tighter engine with a smoother and quieter ride, redesigned body with wicked new headlights.

Nah. New one's a lardy junior exec company car park drag racer.

The old Impreza was a road racer.

WRX = Fast, but fat, ugly and aspirational.

Yuk.

2001 Subaru Impreza WRX 2.0 turbo petrol from Jordan

Summary:

The ultimate sports car

Faults:

Nothing, absolutely nothing.

Great car, just like the previous model, but even more prestigious and more reliable.

WONDERFUL CAR!!!

General Comments:

Tremendous sports car, just like the last model, but with even better grip (try imagining that when you know that the last model had amazing grip!!!) on all tracks.

The engine responds better now through the great new 6-gear manual transmission gear box. This car zooms from 0-100 in 5.6 seconds (the previous model took 6.4 seconds!!!) and the interior is much much better - more reliable looking dashboard, a great sound system (the previous model had a sickening one!!!)

The biggest improvement of this new car is its steering system, it just feels so much better. The previous model had a great steering system, but this is the ultimate steering system I have ever experienced, you just feel everything on the road, it gives you so much more confidence.

The oval shaped lights are OK... but I do believe that the previous model was even prettier!!!

All in all... a great car.

What are you talking about? Over here in Australia the Subaru is now a second slower, the 160 KW one. Subaru has ruined a great thing, they have turned a sports car into a soft car. Oh and pretty much everyone here thinks the new WRX looks crap.

Yeah, I agree with the dude's from Australia comment. I also live in Australia and down here all we've got is a 5 speed manual (not 6 speed although everyone probably wanted that), and it does look pretty crap. They gave it Corolla lights and it just lost it's touch. It used to be a car that was not for the light hearted, it had the whole rough thing going, now it's a bit of a sissy car. Not the performance (although that's gone down a bit too), but the looks.
