2015 Suzuki Celerio SZ3 1.0 three cylinder from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Decent budget city car

Faults:

Air con condenser had a hole in it when I bought it; this was replaced at my cost.

General Comments:

It's a budget car, the only car that was cheaper than the Celerio new in the UK was the Dacia Sandero.

Mine is the mid range SZ3, the SZ4 was discontinued as the model run ended, that one has a few extras.

However mine has alloys, remote locking, Bluetooth, aircon, DAB radio, USB charger/music, front electric windows and daytime running lights.

Everything works. The previous owner clearly didn't love the car, as it has paint scratches etc, but that saved me money on purchase. Plus the cerulean blue is so bright it's hard to notice even big imperfections.

My previous car was much quicker, but was a totally different type of car. Now I've got used to this one, I drive around flat out trying to avoid braking too much. If you've ever hustled an underpowered car around you'll know what I mean; it's quite entertaining.

On a long motorway journey the initially comfortable but quite flat seats will leave you with a numb bum, but it is actually fairly responsive at motorway speeds and overtaking lorries etc is easy.

I mostly do short journeys and have changed the oil once already to try to keep the cam chain looked after. Suzuki suggest 0w20, but some sites say 5w30. I went with the thinner oil and a genuine Suzuki oil filter. Dealer servicing seems reasonable, but I probably won't bother with that. I'm getting 57 mpg on the trip computer and much higher on a run. Unbelievable really.

Brakes are fine, I was surprised to see drums on the back, but they're responsive and predictable so I'm happy.

The one thing I really don't like is the lack of rear speakers - I know it's a budget car, but FFS that's a cut too far. Not sure if the wiring exists (the SZ4 has rear speakers) or if it's worth replacing the front coaxials with better quality ones. They're not awful, but not great, and it annoys me.

I pay zero road tax, my insurance is low, and my fuel bills are tiny. It's not a cool car, but it is practical, quite fun to hoof about and really roomy inside. Adults in the back don't have to amputate their legs like they would in an Aygo/108/C1.

Worth a try if you're looking for a city car, get SZ3 and up, the SZ2 looks sad with its plastic wheel trims and it has no aircon.

2018 Suzuki Celerio Basic Model 0.9 petrol from Greece

Summary:

Non centering steering is the biggest let down

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong so far, no fluid loss either.

General Comments:

Great car but not what I expected.

I have owned small budget cars before, but none have been so weak.

Don't try to overtake anyone; this car has no power. I would not recommend it for a highway car; I live on a small island and it's still not powerful enough; it even stalls in reverse if the air con is on.

It's built in Thailand and has a very simple engine to work on... 1998 technology, so I guess it's easy for anyone to work on, no fancy wires or electronics in the engine bay.

So let's look at the positives and negatives:

Positives:

Excellent on fuel consumption; over about 2000 kilometres I only went to the fuel station 3 times.

Great entertainment system and Bluetooth.

Not much road noise compared to other budget cars; engine so quiet you forget it's actually on and driving; only above 3500 RPM can you hear it.

Reverse sensors, easy to park small car.

OSD shows what gear you should put it in according to the gradient on the road and speed etc.

Negatives:

The power steering does not center; first time I have not seen that in a car and I have had 39 cars before this one.

It's weak, don't overtake.

No mud flaps.

Rear brakes are drum in 2018??

Used as rental cars, everybody thinks you are tourist.

Small boot space, 5 shopping bags, but the seats can be dropped.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

Good post. The Celerio in some other markets has the 1.0 litre engine. What are your exact consumption figures?
