2001 Tata Safari LX 2lt turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent value for money and a work horse

Faults:

Water pipe from heater matrix to radiator split at 58000 miles

Exhaust replaced at 55000 miles

Steering idler arm replaced about every 15000 miles.

General Comments:

Not the fastest machine in the world, but around the country lanes that I live its OK.

Once on motorway and you get it wound up it will sit there OK

After you get used to the intrusive road noise you don't notice it.

2001 Tata Safari LX 1.9 turbo diesel from India

Summary:

I am waiting for a new CRDI engine with an Auto tranny!

Faults:

I have replaced the entire suspension! A battery and the alternator.

General Comments:

I use the car for fairly long trips in India on poor roads. It is a fantastic long distance cruiser and is generally more comfortable than my other vehicle (1996 Land Cruiser).

On the downside, it is seriously underpowered and is a lumbering pig in the city! Suffers from poor quality control, but an ambitious design.

2001 Tata Safari LX 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Poor mans Range Rover!

Faults:

Exhaust System needed replacing.

Transfer box in bearing needed replacing

Power steering needed adjustment.

General Comments:

To buy a 2 year old 7 seat Turbo Diesel 4x4 for less than £7000,You cannot expect a range rover, the items that were at fault were due to lack of knowledge on the part of whoever serviced car, I do not think it is down to the car itself, or manufacture. My car now has a garage that knows the make, and does the proper service. (although it's a 120 mile trip to get it done)

Trim could have finishing touches put to it, and could do with bigger engine, maybe 2.3, or even 3.0.

Wouldn't change it now I have it, and would buy another without hesitation.
