1995 Toyota 4Runner SR-5 3.0 V6 from North America
Summary:
Nice vehicle, but I should have had it checked by a mechanic
Faults:
Overall, the car runs fine. Everything works on it, but... the engine burns a quart of oil every 350 miles!
I am being told by the local dealerships that not only are my valve guides and seals bad, but the oil rings are probably worn.
General Comments:
The Toyota 3.0 V6 3VZ motor is a poor one, according to the engine re-builder that supplies the local Toyota dealerships with short blocks. They said the problem is with the flimsy pistons. When they rebuild the motors, they install much heavier duty pistons.
The valve seals on this motor have a tendency to dry out between 80,000 and 100,000 miles, causing some oil consumption...approx. 1 quart in 1,000 to 1,500 miles.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Same experience with this engine. Had to be rebuilt at 107k miles because of burning oil. Thought it was something I did or prior owner, but it looks like the engine is a lemon.
