2014 Toyota Avensis Icon D4D 2.0 diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Near perfect

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

If you want a reliable cost effective car, look no further than a Toyota Avensis.

My 2014 car has low mileage and has been looked after well. As such, I paid a bit too much arguably. For a used car, they still command a high price compared to rival cars. But that's because most in the trade know the Avensis has better reliability than others and people will pay.

Of course, to get this reliability you must service the car correctly as well, using quality oils and parts. Thankfully this can be done for a reasonable price if you know a good independent mechanic. The car is also cheap to run with low tax and good miles per gallon for diesel. I can average around 50 mpg taking it slow on long drives.

The 2.0 diesel has enough power too. Not a fast car, but if you need to overtake in a hurry, it's always ready. The car also drives very nicely. Relaxing cruising. Comfy seats. Lots of electrics on this "Icon" model. Spacious too.

Exterior wise my car is grey with alloy wheels. A typical modern looking car. Inoffensive. Does not try to look like something it is not. Get a Supra if you want to stand out!

Negatives? It's a pretty dull car all things considered. Some might prefer the looks and better driving cars like a Ford Mondeo or Vauxhall Insignia or whatever. The Avensis also has an annoying blind spot when reversing due to its high boot lid. And some have called the front grille ugly.

Still, these are minor points on an otherwise fine automobile. I love mine and I'm sure you will love one too if you just want a simple hassle free car that can do it all.

2014 Toyota Avensis Icon 2.0 diesel D-4D from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent so far

Faults:

So far so good, only had the car one year and no problems.

General Comments:

Black 2014 Avensis, Icon model with alloy wheels, not bad looking.

Inside however is pretty dull - a typical Japanese interior, functional but nothing exciting. That said, it is comfortable and very well equipped.

Ride is smooth and the car drives very well. 2.0 diesel engine does over 50 mpg when driven sensibly, fast enough to overtake when you need too as well.

Very expensive on the used market compared to rival cars (Mondeo, Insignia, Optima, etc) but that is due to the Avensis being an excellent and reliable car, arguably the best in its class if you just want hassle free motoring. A looked after car should prove among the best out there. Recommended.

They are the best cars in their class for the money, no question :)

2014 Toyota Avensis Icon Tourer 2.0 D4D from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Big estate car that is very durable

Faults:

Mechanical wear and tear to suspension, brakes and so on.

EGR valve needed cleaned.

DPF re-gen.

General Comments:

Not bad to drive, the Avensis is a nice car for family use.

Tourer model is a huge estate, not bad looking in darker colors.

Icon spec has all the electrics you need. Comfy seats. Quiet on the move.

2.0 diesel engine is smooth and does around 50 mpg.

They command a premium to buy used, but they are worth it in the long run - easily one of the most reliable in its class.

A little dated not, they have been about since 2009, but this 2014 model has had the mid life updates and still felt like an early 2000's car, no bad thing as it was nice and simple in design. I think cars like this will be around for a long time yet.

2014 Toyota Avensis Icon Tourer 2.0 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Does what I need it to do

Faults:

Not much other than servicing and wear and tear, it is a Toyota :)

If I am am being really picky cosmetically it is looking a little rougher now, but it is 8 years old. Inside seat quality could be better. Suspension getting rattly, but I am nearing 90,000 miles and will have this checked at the next service.

General Comments:

Icon Tourer is an estate car Avensis in a good specification (electric windows, air con, etc) all very nicely appointed. The car is very nice to be in if somewhat dull.

2.0 diesel is fast enough, cheap to tax, and if you take it slow you will see 60 miles per gallon. Not a fun car to drive, but it is not that kind of car.

Lots of space as expected for an estate car. Very comfortable. Quiet.

Exterior is ugly in all honesty. There are worse looking cars, I like the rear tinted windows and view from the back and side, but the front grille is just weird looking. I can live with it though. The car has been reliable as per Toyota, and provided me with easy to live with motoring for a few years now; recommended if you want a no nonsense practical car.

I had one of these as a taxi and it was a great car. Terribly ugly though. Good thing I couldn't see that grille sitting behind the wheel all day.
