1989 Toyota Camry LE V-6 from North America

Summary:

Great car with a low cost of ownership

Faults:

Alternator went out at about 168,000 miles.

New radiator and fan needed at about 171,000.

Needed new brakes at about 180,000.

Car was broken into when previously owned and the driver-side power locks are quirky.

General Comments:

Great car. The V-6 has a lot of pickup.

Milage is good for a V-6/automatic. On the highway I regularly get about 28 or 29 miles per gallon.

Only real complaint is that with the sunroof, the headroom is lowered considerably (I'm 6'2" so this is an issue for me!).

These are great cars which last forever if you take care of them. My father has an 86 Camry with 234,000 miles which shows no signs of stopping.

1989 Toyota Camry LE 2.0 liter 4 cylinder from North America

Faults:

Nothing has gone bad with the car except the brake pads which were changed at 110,000 miles.

I also changed the tires at 112,000 miles and wiper-blades at 115,000 miles.

My Camry doesn't have a dent or a rust spot and it has a good looking color that I painted back. The color of the paint was Metallic Candy Apple Red.

General Comments:

This car is quick, accelerates very fast, handles around turns, curves and corners very well. Most times on the highway I run it at 85 miles per hour unless there are cops around.

1989 Toyota Camry LXI 3.0 Liter Gas from North America

Summary:

The best car I've ever owned

Faults:

Very few. I had the timing belt replaced (and the water pump, timing belt tensioner, and all belts) replaced at 90,000 miles as a maintenance item. I've replaced the brakes at about 30,000 mile intervals, two sets of tires, and most recently had to replace the shocks and will now need to replace the Constant Velocity joints.

General Comments:

This has been a fantastic car. It's the 4-door wagon with V-6 engine. I use it daily, and consider it completely reliable. It's very quick, quiet, comfortable, and reliable. I'd buy another one like it in a heartbeat (if they had one available). Too bad, they phased the wagons out. I regularly get 29 miles to the gallon, and have never been stranded by a breakdown.

You may not believe this, but I picked up a 1989 V6 wagon fully loaded with only 135000 KM! It's got a clean history check and a matching interior ;). Not only that it's got practically no rust at all and the A/C still works!

The most reasonable 4WD for upkeep.

1989 Toyota Camry GLi 2.0i from Belgium

Summary:

Strong reliable cruiser

Faults:

4 x tyres.

Complete exhaust set due to age.

2 x battery.

General Comments:

This car has been outside since new and has no rust at all.

Cery reliable, always starts the first time in any weather.

Very economic too: 7.5l/100km.

My previous one was a Corolla bought new in 1980 and sold in 1989 with 85,000km on the clock. This one had much rust, but was also completely reliable.

Very good cars.

These suckers just won't quit!

1989 Toyota Camry V6LE V6 from North America

Faults:

The car was absolutely fine before my brother began driving it. Ever since my brother set his hands behind the wheel, everything just went wrong. There were oil leaks and the engine stalls. Finally, the car broke down while my brother was driving it in the middle freeway and it died there. The car would have lasted forever if it wasn't for my brother.

General Comments:

It's a great car as long as you keep it away from stupid and aggressive drivers.

1989 Toyota Camry LE from North America

Faults:

I got the car when it was seven years old, and now it's ten. In the 3 years I've had it, I've only had to replace the muffler and get the brakes done. In the last few months it's lost some power. It kicks a little when it changes gear. But considering these are the only problems it has at its age, I'm quite satisfied.

General Comments:

The most reliable car you can get, no doubt. This one won't leave you stranded.

The most reliable car you can get? I beg to differ. My '88 Camry was such a lemon, with numerous oil leak problems (over $1,000 spent), brake problems, starting problems, and very poor build quality! The car died on me at a busy intersection during rush hour. Had to get a cop to help me push the car out of the road. How dependable is that?

Faults:

Spark plug wires at 90,000 miles, brakes at 110,000 miles, that's it!
