1997 Toyota Camry LE V6 3.0L V6 from North America

Summary:

Fantastic Commuter!!

Faults:

I did nothing other than regular maintenance to the Camry until about 167k, when I knew it needed more than normal. I replaced a power steering rack, strut mount supports, a transmission pan gasket, and a battery (battery was my fault, had the radio on, but not the engine when I was cleaning it and ran it out of charge). Other than that, it has been problem free.

General Comments:

This car has been wonderful to me. I have driven with it quite a bit and maintained it when needed, so far it hasn't let me down. I commute 75 miles total every day and need to know that I am getting there safely and without any problems. My Camry gives me peace of mind that it will never strand me. The cupholders and center console are well designed, neat and clean. I have the 3 CD changer that, while convenient, is easy to misload CD's into. Operator error's, mostly. The seats are supportive and comfortable for my commute. Plenty of room for everyone, and the trunk is pretty spacious too. I really cannot fault this car for much, if anything. I would love a newer SE model, and once this hits 200k (prob next year) I will look into a used model.

1997 Toyota Camry CE from North America

Summary:

The most reliable car there is..

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with my Camry. At 107k miles, I trust it even more than I did when it was newer.. This is not a comfortable ride.. After about 5 hours of driving, one has no feeling from the waist down, its like sitting on a concrete block..Also, it's a little hard keeping the windshield from fogging up from the inside.I've tried numerous combinations of defrost and heat and air, but it just dosent seem to work.. These are minor problems on this otherwise miraculously reliable car..

General Comments:

Fabulous reliability.. Love the 40 miles per gallon gas mileage, and the brakes never wear out... I know my Camry is always ready to go, in any weather, from sub-subzero to driving pouring rain... I feel safe in this car, ans another plus is that its sort of anonymous.. One can travel alone and no one really looks at your car, because its very generic and I love that about it.. I travel alone a lot, and don't want to attract attention...

1997 Toyota Camry CE unsure from North America

Summary:

Average performance; AMAZING reliability

Faults:

The paint scratches easily. There are many tiny nicks and bumps all over the surface of the car. Hard to see from 10ft. away, though.

The tires had to be replaced (approx. $450 CAN) : due to regular use.

If you are buying a Camry, you MUST pay for better than average parts: this is not like my former Neon where I could try to shop in the bargain basement.

General Comments:

My 1997 Toyota Camry CE is not a sports car. The pickup can be a little sluggish at times. Luckily, I do not need a sports car.

It is HIGHLY dependable and reliable. We took it to Florida and back, NOT one problem. I got 650km Highway on ONE tank of gas!

Please note: the tailpipe hangs VERY low in the car, which was disturbing at first, but this is the case on most Camrys.

Of course, if you buy it, you HAVE to pay for it. Maintenance costs are higher than average (as opposed to a small car), but you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR: amazing reliability! When I went to get an oil change the other day, I fumbled with the hood release, because I hadn't popped the hood in over 2 months! (a sign of my laziness I'm sure, but you can't go that long with a Neon).

My point of comparison is a 1995 Dodge Neon. The Neon was average, good gas mileage, but had engine light problems that would have cost $500 just to SHUT OFF the dang light.

The Camry is EXCELLENT, reliable, and relatively economical. The City gas mileage is average, but of course I'm comparing it with the smaller cars I've driven before. On the Highway it's SCARY how little gas it uses!

All the peace of mind of a $50,000 car, but half the price. Not as stylish as a Lexus or a Mercedes Benz, just a GREAT VALUE!
