2001 Toyota Camry CSi V6 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Reliable and more than adequate performance

Faults:

Nothing wrong with the car that wasn't caused by driver error or excessive/strenuous use.

Apparently I screwed the brakes cause I broke at high speeds. Wheel alignment once or twice. Car developing a certain roughness, minor jarring noise when driven in a certain way at a certain rev.

General Comments:

Our Cressida was getting old, dad made a decision between the Camry or the Avalon and chose the CSi V6 which was the cheapest one. He probably asked for some options, but I dunno what they are. There's no ABS and I don't think there are air bags either unless there are driver ones as standard.

I've learnt to drive with this car. It's shared in the family, but after my dad I'm the one who drives it the most often. I've abused it occasionally, dragging Commodores at the lights, and won, as well as other cars. Racing at up to 167 km/h trailing, but not falling behind a GTR R33. I've jolt braked speed humps to clear them quicker, I've turned in at high speeds, I've floored the accelerator and had the car jump with sudden and gorgeous performance. If it wasn't for other cars I'd thought I was driving a sports car. It's silky smooth when tame and fast when you want it to be and need it to be. It's perfect for those who don't worry too much about the car, taking it to service and not caring about it later because you trust it and feel as it it'll never fail you. I've grown up with this car and it's like a friend that I rely on. If driven frequently and enthusiastically unleaded can reach up to $50 a week. It drives better with premium unleaded and make sure you get good tires for the front. I've never complained about the car, but I do complain when it gets bad tires, the 'new' Dunlops were craptastic and wouldn't grip on the wet so I got my dad to get Pirellis like the ones before. Braking is excellent. If used properly you won't need ABS, I've only had it skid twice, but that was because I wasn't braking properly.

In conclusion, if you want a great all round car with decent performance, a car you with stick with until it gets either written off or you sell it, this is the car for you because you can trust it.

ROFL guys and their fast cars.. talk about small body parts...

2001 Toyota Camry LE 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

This car is number one because of the value, build quality, reliability, and its simply fun to drive

Faults:

The only thing that went wrong is the light that illuminates the a/c knob and settings burned out.

General Comments:

This car is very excellent in build quality, handling, and it has great pickup.

All the controls are positioned perfectly and it is a very easy car to drive.

Changing the spark plugs requires removal of some engine parts so it is a very time consuming task.

This car isn't the number one selling car for nothing, being super reliable, trustworthy, and very smooth to drive.

The trunk has great room for luggage and is very nice lined with carpet and I love the full size spare.

It has excellent passing power when pushed and the engine is silky smooth with no hesitation.

The tires spin when you floor it so caution needs to be used.

Handling is predictable and precise.

Body integrity is very excellent.

This car makes a perfect everyday driver and cruiser.

Parking this car is very easy like parking a compact with very good turning radius.

Parts for this car is pretty high, but these parts of very high quality and probably will last very long.

Once a Camry owner, always a

Camry owner.

Here is a TRUE story for all you Toyota fanatics, like me: my grandparents bought a Camry, I believe a year or two old, and my grandfather took it in for a routine Pennsylvania inspection, and the mechanic who ran the emissions test said that his machine must not be working because he could not get a reading, and told my grandfather to come back another day. Instead of doing that, my grandfather drove to another garage, and the mechanic said basically the same thing; he couldn't get a reading. So they put it on another machine; same thing happened. This motor runs so well that it has almost no emissions.

What you're really referring to is a ULEV (ultra low emission vehicle) which many later model Japanese cars (non-hybrid) are.

Of course, you also have to understand that the inspection machines are calibrated a certain way, so it's not like the Camry is NOT polluting just because the machine essentially says it isn't.

Just check out CAR magazine from England (available in some bookstores). They have a whole section on all the cars sold in England and their CO2 emissions.

Thanks for the information, I will research further.

It parks like a compact car because it IS a compact car! Maybe not by how cars are classified today, but in my view, if a 196" Dodge Dart is a compact, then so is a 185-189" Camry.

Try the four-cylinder model. It is tedious and cumbersome. Cruise control up a hill is worthless as the Camry will LURCH to keep the same speed (only 40 MPH). The four-cylinder engine couldn't outrun a kid on a bicycle.
