1990 Toyota MR2 GT-TRD 2.0 turbo petrol from Australia and New Zealand
Summary:
A tiger in sheep's clothing. Don't underestimate it!
Faults:
Flat battery from leaving the courtesy door lights running (my fault!)
Nothing else yet, bar the usual tyres, oil filters and regular maintenance...
General Comments:
Goes like stink. Mine's a Jap import and has most of the Toyota Racing Development mods, but never having driven a regular GT, I don't know how much difference it makes.
Will eat a Starlet GT for brekkie, scares a Merc Kompressor to death and have outrun an Imprezza WRX, although that may be due to the other driver's ineptitude, not either car!
Handles well but is crap on wet greasy roads.
Noisy and tiring on long hauls.
Next to NO luggage room-use only squishy bags as nothin else fits !
Not that economical- 12k per litre around town and 14k on the open road. Drinks the higher octane juice and is therefore pricey to feed (also uses pricey oil).
Have to replace the cam belt shortly before it goes bang and guts the engine.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

The Toyota 3sge/te engine that these cars have are non-interference engines, so if the cam belt breaks it won't mess the engine up, you just take off the broken belt and put a on a new one and its good as new.
