2013 Toyota RAV4 Premium Plus 2.2 dCAT diesel from Lithuania

Summary:

Successful mid size SUV

Faults:

Nothing so far - the car just had its first service.

General Comments:

It's quite a big leap forward from the previous RAV4. This new model grew again and now truly competes in the midsize SUV segment. Our model is full spec, and with almost all optional accessories - it's as good as it gets.

The diesel engine is sufficient; of course it doesn't compete with BMW diesels, but it does the job with ease. The 6 speed automatic gearbox isn't sporty, but I have no complaints about it.

Comfort is average. However, it's much more spacious and comfortable than the previous generation. The ride is a bit on the firm side, but there's an advantage to it - it corners really neatly and the handling is good! The boot space is OK, but the seat ergonomics could be a little better - they are just plain seats with almost no sculpting.

The biggest flaw I think is the interior design. It seems Toyota tried so hard to make this model a big show in all ways possible, that they overdid it. The dash is way overloaded with design features: angles, colors, shapes, button displacement, you name it - everything is complicated. "Carbon fibre" panels in a RAV4!.. Think about it yourself - what were they thinking?.. Anyway, the outside styling is way more tasteful and I think it's successful.

However, the car in general is OK. It's practical, drives OK and it's a Toyota, so reliability shouldn't be an issue. If you load it with higher trim features, you have a pretty good ride.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
