Oh and I almost forgot for the guy who wanted to buy a starlet the cars are restricted, but I think a unichip will sort that out, but it is a 1.3 (it's a 0-60 car). There are lots of helpful starlet owner clubs and websites that will have new and old parts and some expensive tuning companies, so find yourself a good mechanic.

Cheers mate for the info. I've got a good mechanic nearby and my girlfriends uncle is an ex-BMW engineer so he's always good on my cars and much cheaper than the local mechanic. If these cars are generally 0-60 fast runners whats the top end like? I've heard around 110mph. Hope that's rubbish. It would be good to see more like 120mph+. Let me know if anyone knows or has tested there car and can give a genuine top end figure that they achieved. No Bull though. Thanks for all and any info.

Oh, and just to add to the engine debate, look out for the Honda b16a engine (1.6) and the b18c (1.8) with a turbo added can easily cross the 500hp barrier. I have seen a b18c with a huge turbo running 35lb of boost running at 790bhp. Not bad for a 1.8, so I can't see why 350 isn't possible from a 1.3.

What cars are those Honda engines in then? Is it the Accord or more likely the Integra? I'm looking for a Starlet, but can't find one yet so another turbo car as a back up option would be good. Just to add 350bhp from a 1.3 is totally possible. I don't know why people are even questioning that. They need to read more obviously.

Sounds good. Thanks for the info. I'm finding it really hard to find a Starlet. There's a few out there, but I'm not up for spending silly money on a 12 year old car that although someone has done some good modifications too, they've also ragged the car half to death. I've broadened my search to include the UK Sunny Gti-R, but haven't seen one yet. I think they're rarer than rocking horse ****!!. Any info on the Sunny that anyone knows would be great or a bit more info on your Integra would be good also. Like how much do they go for? what was the production years? etc. Thanks all.

I think the standard gt turbo's top out at around 125 mph. correct me if I'm wrong.

Starlet 1.3 Turbos are alright, but certainly not that impressive!!!
What is a very impressive machine is a Charade GTti. I'm a proud owner of one these rare machines with under 200 left in the UK. It has a 993cc, 3 cylinder, twin cam, 12 valve, turbo charged engine doing a very respectable 0-60mph in 7.9sec, stock! Sounds like a recipe for trouble, but is very strong and reliable, when maintained properly!
With simple mods and without boost, mine is currently running about 130bhp. It's currently good enough to give a stock 1.6 VTI VTEC a very good run, and leave many larger cars to dust!... Very fun!!! GTti with stock internals can go up-to about 200bhp achieved by sheer enthusiasts, as there is no dedicated tuning or performance firm for these, so DIY...
Now for a Glanza to achieve 350bhp is debatable, but then it's certain that stock internals will need to be uprated, which I'm sure are available with the likes of TRD etc... it would be interesting know how much it can achieve with stock internals, which would show how capable an engine truly is... not that much I don't think...

Starlets are 1/4 mile cars. Any starlet owner/lover knows the cars limitations and works with them. The car is a little 1.3, that makes 1.6 back up to 2.0 owners fret when they lick the stuffing out of them in a 1/4 mile run. Picking them to pieces because you were on open road and left the LITTLE 1.3 behind in 3rd gear just proves that it is YOU who is trying to overestimate the poor starlets class.
Starlets 4ever!

The Focus owner said he beat that Starlet in a drag race as well, which is more than believable.

My Starlet is near standard. I beat Focus ST's all day long up to 90.
Ugly? I'm sure the noise these cars can make will pull a lot of ladies.
Also, don't own a Focus till you're ready to retire.

Hello everyone, I am interested in buying a starlet glanza v and wondered what the actual 0-60mph time is on this car as I have seen reports suggesting 8.2secs,7.4 seconds,6.8 sec and 6.6 seconds.
I have also wondered about the top speed of this car as again I have read reports stating 130mph.
If anyone can help on this matters, please do let me know.

I use to have a civic vti that got to 60 in about 7.7 seconds, and it use to edge those little starlets, so think they will do 60 in just over 8 seconds, I think some people are over rating the 0-60 times of the starlet, I standard starlet would hit 60 no quicker than 8 seconds.

Couldn't agree more mate' I've got a dc2 Integra (0-60 in around 6.5) and I raced my mate's Starlet and completely left him for dead. It was a joke and his isn't standard its around 150 bhp. And I don't think I need to tell you what happens when we race down the country lanes.

My friends just bought a dc2, for some reason the car just feels special, and the vtec is very aggressive when it kicks in.

Hi I'm looking to buy a Starlet gt, the Glanza (prefferably 1996/7 model). I am amazed by the performance of these little cars. Is it true 0-60 in in about 6.9 seconds?. Is that true for the Glanza because the earlier models are 860kg and the Glanza are about 920kg. what is the top speed.
20th Dec 2007, 15:43
No, they don't do 0-60 in 6.9; it is more lke 8. Its the same problem as usual here, boy racers getting carried away.
23rd Dec 2007, 16:03
This sounds here that a couple of people seem to be getting annoyed by the starlets performance here. funny really.

"This sounds here that a couple of people seem to be getting annoyed by the starlets performance here; funny really."
Nowhere near as funny as the absurd claims being made about the starlets performance. I raced one in my astra vxr, and OK it isn't standard, but I completely annihilated him, left him far ahead. It was a complete joke. No way on this earth will it do 0-60 in anything close to 6.9. It wouldn't surprise me if it was more like 10.

This is for the comments above people, and I am the person who gave advice on the Starlet, Mazda, and said that you can tune the Starlet to 350bhp. I don't talk crap.
Evo's and Subaru's can be tuned to 700bhp and more, and Skyline's 1000bhp, so why not a 1.3 to 350bhp.
Here's proof: http://autospeed.com.au/cms/article.html?&A=3018
