Faults:

- The radiator (150000KM)

- Constant velocity joints were clicking a little so I replaced them (160000KM)

- Clutch master piston (Hydraulic clutch) 140000KM

- Fuel line leaked, but wasn't rusty (145000KM)

- Head gasket needed replacing, simply two bolts (165000KM)

- Starter needed replacing (170000KM)

General Comments:

I love this car; it is awesome to drive and is very reliable. It is surprisingly fast for 1.5L. It is a taut car that has never needed any major work yet, and it doesn't burn oil.

It is loud at high speeds, and at 150km/h it gets some speed wobble. I only have regular tires rated at 110km (they're tiny).

Faults:

Bought the car used, needed new tires and that was it.

General Comments:

Cheap alternative to my domestic Chevy truck which guzzles gas. Have owned lots of toyota's and this one ranks right up there in terms of quality and reliablity.

Faults:

Nothing has gone bad with this car yet. I guess I will have to have the brakes overhauled, but that's it.

General Comments:

The car is pretty economical.

It's a great first car.

Reliable and cheap on gas I love it.

I wish Toyota brings out a newer version of this car.

Faults:

The driver seat ripped, and the seat belt frayed.

I had to get a new radiator and replace valve cover gasket.

General Comments:

I'm very tough on my car and I've had to have very little replaced in the 12 years I've had it.

The work that I needed to get done was cheap.

Faults:

My seats have shown some wear.

The back seat opens into the trunk, but the latch broke, so that doesn't work anymore.

There were some other mechanical difficulties, I can't remember them all, it has been a while.

General Comments:

This is an awesome little car. It is so reliable. I have had the car for five years and I have not had anything major go wrong in that time. There have been days when my car was outside in -50F weather and it still started in the morning (no block heater)! Very reliable.

It doesn't have real great pick-up power (especially on hills), but overall it was a good value.

Faults:

Burns about 1qt oil every 1000 miles.

Valve job at 100,000 miles, due to neglect by previous owner.

Vinyl seats, front and rear, are torn and require seat covers.

Tough to shift when cold.

General Comments:

This car is an absolute champ! Since I have to add a quart of oil every 1000 miles or so, there is never a need to change the oil. Tires are $20 each and last 40,000 miles. Fuel costs are negligible. Oil, tires, and fuel--that pretty much covers it, because nothing on this car ever breaks, no matter how hard I abuse it. Sure, it's tough to carry on a conversation at freeway speeds, it's like driving a sleigh when the roads are wet, and ascending steep mountain passes may require considerable patience. But if you value bulletproof reliability bordering on indestructibility, ridiculously minimal operating costs, and the feeling of freedom that comes from leaving your car parked in the bad part of town all day long with the windows down and the doors unlocked, knowing that it will still be there when you return, this is your car!
