Check out Russia for GM... the middle class is rising and has a fondness for finer vehicles such as GM.

I personally feel the opposite that American vehicles are getting better and better. And my last 2 late model luxury Japanese vehicles were horrendous. And the recalls if anything keep increasing not decreasing with the quality I remember from the past. You are probably driving older Japanses vehicles several years old. And probably have not owned a domestic since 2004.

21st Jan 2007, 18:48

Oh, I get it. That explains why the head of GM said at the Detroit auto show that GM may buy Proton, the Malaysian carmaker.

Lots of American jobs there!

"I buy Japanese made Toyota's because they're just better. We all know that. The Japanese are far ahead of the U.S. when it comes to almost anything technological; no big secret there."

I'm sorry, but the truth is that Japanese products are not way ahead of GM or any domestic. This has been proven. Just look at that flimsy peice of work Tundra. Read the reviews and read some comments that state 100% FACT why they are not better.

Watch the video "The truth About Trucks" where it compares the new Toyota and Domestics. The Tundra quickly became a joke, flimsy work everywhere. If they are so much better, wouldn't you think that the Toyota would have been the one on top, not the Ford F-150? If they are so much better, why are they having so many problems with recalls on MAJOR safety defects. Since 2000 GMC has been gaining in quality, and nowadays even Ford has met/passed Toyota in terms of reliability and quality. My family has owned domestics all my life, and we rarely have any problems with them. My one and only Toyota, a Sequoia, blew the whole electrical system TWICE! I actually have a review on this, model year 2005; "Painfully unreliable, but comfortable."

Looking at the recent GM products and reading reviews, especially on the SUV's, GM has long since met Toyota, and in my opinion, surpassed them. Just look at the new Tahoe/Suburban/Escalade, there is not a single Toyota vehicle that can offer as much in quality and style. The Sequoia is weak compared to these; they always have been.

Ford F-Series #1 vehicle sold in the U.S.A. for 24 years and the top truck for 29 years. Better buy a Ford...

It's great to know American companies have taken the lead in a dying marketplace. That's sure to bring in more jobs and more income.

Just another example of how out of touch with reality American car makers are.

22nd Jan 2007, 07:45

And this creates American jobs how?

Or do you really believe all those Buicks and other cars are being built here and shipped to Russia, China, and other parts of the world?

22nd Jan 2007, 10:35

Yes... before they go out of business and the F-150 becomes a collector item.

22nd Jan 2007, 18:51

Well, guess what? Just because F-150's have sold more than Toyota trucks DOES NOT make them the best; it makes them the highest seller. People buy more Whoppers and Big Macs than they buy foods that are healthy for them. Duh!? They're the highest seller, not the best choice. This whole argument is a no-brainer: Toyota's are better, as all the facts support, (already stated earlier, here and on other threads on this site).

22nd Jan 2007, 19:08

So where exactly are your facts proving that Toyota's are better? Everywhere I've seen on here it's all evidence that Domestic vehicles are the better lot. Shall I say again, the Tundra reviews? Ohhh yeah.. real Toyota dominance there...

22nd Jan 2007, 19:41

If failing brakes, defective air bags, faulty steering, peeling paint, erratically shifting transmissions, sticking accelerators, oil leaks, coolant leaks, flimsier construction and poorer quality materials constitute a "superior" vehicle, then Toyota might qualify. However I'm not aware of any changes in the definition of the word "superior". I thought it still meant "better". Please advise which dictionary you are getting your definition from. I must have an old one.

Its easy to knock success vs. realizing how it was accomplished. Considering that the Ford F Series the #1 vehicle sold in America and outsells the Camry in the #3 spot is pretty significant in itself. If you look at true cost of ownership on Edmunds for example... a Ford F150 4 Door costs.69 mile vs.63 mile for the Tundra. It has a bigger engine 5.4 V8 vs Toyotas 4.7 V8. The Ford can tow up to 8200 vs. Toyota at 6500 lbs. The Ford weighs more and yet gets identical mileage on the interstate. It can also carry one additional passenger. This is based on 5 year ownership 15,000 miles per year. By the way the new Silverado 5 year ownership true cost on Edmunds was also less than owning a Tundra. The Whopper hamburger comment is ridiculous. I believe that the America public puts a great deal of consideration on buying a capital purchase/vehicle in most cases second only to their home. To some people wealthy enough to own several vehicles they may actually go out and buy a vehicle like you may go out and buy a hamburger. Its not a decision taken lightly. The majority of individuals want the best and would not keep buying them if they were not. Come on 24 years!! A truck purchase is also entirely different than buying a very conservative sedan. If this topic does not stray off current full size trucks you will no doubt see other domestics owners praising this vehicle.

23rd Jan 2007, 05:43

Did anyone miss that FORD F Series sold 796,039 vs. Tundra at 112,484. Why make a big deal over all this... It speaks volumes. One product alone!!!

23rd Jan 2007, 08:00

This is too funny. You pro-domestic people can't decide which argument to use. Here it's the "domestics sell more so they are obviously the superior vehicle". Yet on the Camry and its competitors boards YOU people give the "whopper" argument saying how just because the Camry is THE bestseller does not mean it's a good car.

Make up your mind.

And the Chevy Cavalier was consistently a bestseller yet it was outclassed by the competition from day one back in 1981/1982.

<<I believe that the America public puts a great deal of consideration on buying a capital purchase/vehicle in most cases second only to their home>.

You're joking, right? SUVs are the most unsafe vehicles out there, as are pickup trucks. There is zero thought put into that, as they bought them like mad over the past 17 years.

American vehicles are bought simply because they are cheap, and Americans are used to incentives.

And they certainly don't care about reliability, as notoriously unreliable vehicles like the Chrysler minivans, Ford Focus, and others are continued big sellers.

23rd Jan 2007, 11:08

In regard to comment 05:43, what I really find amazing is that there are actually 112,484 people who buy a Tundra after all the problems they have been having. I guess a lot of people just don't research their vehicles before buying.

23rd Jan 2007, 11:45

Oh please, lack of knowledge is what has kept the American car manufacturers in business since the 1960's. Just look at all the denial on these boards about the safety of SUVs and pickups.

23rd Jan 2007, 12:31

I don't know... I have seen some with over 200,000 miles with no problems whatsoever. I got to get off this site because I need to get back to work at my day job... losing sleep because my GM cars are being eaten by the Japanese does not hurt me or surprise me... God's wrath is all that scares me...
