"Official" bhp is either 156 for the early (87-89) cars, or 150 for the later ones. If you can find one, get an early car, not just for the extra power, but because the cylinder head was allegedly cast in-house by Cosworth, and on later engines was done by Vauxhall. The Vauxhall heads can go porous over time causing water and oil mixing, and cannot be repaired. Some later cars also had catalytic converters which sap a few bhp.
I had a 1988 example and it was an absolute rocket. Totally reliable too, even with 120,000 miles on the clock. To my mind, still one of the best four cylinder engines ever made. Lots of torque all through the rev range, but a typical four valve wallop up top. Made a fantastic noise as well, even on standard pipes.

Hi, I have a H reg Astra GTE rotting in my driveway. It did have 1 minor fuel leak, but as it has been on my drive some of it is perished. I was just wondering how much I could get if I sold it for parts? E. G Digi-dash.

Alright there people, I don't no whether you could help me out or not, but I have just bought a Vauxhall Astra 8v Convertible on an H plate - with the digital dash in.
Next to the side light icon on the dash, I have another icon coming up when I put my foot on the accelerator! It goes out when my foot is taken off the accelerator! The icon is orange and looks like a kinda fuel pump icon, it also has a small lightning bolt which is inside it! Can anyone help me out, cheers regards will, holmesisthebest@hotmail.com

The orange light sounds to me like an "engine management light". You will need a scanner to read the codes off the ECU.

If your tyres are blowing you better check the tracking.
A nova 16v will not handle better than the astra due to the weight in the front.
