Timed my sri turbo and got 0-60 in 7.2sec 0-100 in 21.6sec. Done with proper timing gear.
1st Apr 2006, 04:44
Your timing gear must slightly be out - that 0-100 time is too slow to match up to the 0-60 time you got. An SRi turbo should be hitting 60 in around 7 seconds, and 100 in sub-18 seconds.

Totally agree. I think we have all heard enough of these so called pathetic performance claims.
7th Apr 2006, 05:22
He's claiming a 33bhp increase though, which is never gonna happen from such a basic mod.
7th Apr 2006, 08:14
Many of these SRI Turbos made in excess of 210 BHP in standard form at a recent rolling road I attended, and it did seem accurate as many cars were making book figures... lets think shall we eh... before we comment.
10th Apr 2006, 07:43
There must have been something wrong with that particular Rolling Road then - in reality these cars will reach, or even beat, their claimed 189bhp without any tuning.
10th Apr 2006, 14:12
Try about 7.3 sec to 60mph as the power to weight is quite poor on the sri turbo.
10th Apr 2006, 18:46
Try knocking about half a second of that 0-60 time - the GSi takes 6.6 seconds and only has 8bhp more than the SRi turbo.
11th Apr 2006, 05:54
As someone else stated, the astra GSI is quite a bit faster than the Sri Turbo, and from past experience of having the pleasure of driving both I can honestly agree with this comment. I "really" can't see the SRI turbo dipping below the 7sec mark from 0-60.
11th Apr 2006, 11:15
Please explain why you think the GSi is "quite a bit faster than the SRi turbo". Both cars have the same engine, and weight the same (if anything the GSi is a little heavier), with the GSi having just 8bhp extra from a re-mapped ECU.
12th Apr 2006, 03:31
Even the Focus RS would have to try really hard to beat a well driven SRi turbo. With equally matched drivers the ST170 has no chance, unless given a head start of course.
12th Apr 2006, 13:57
St170 has less bhp, torque and more weight. So please explain to me how that happened, unless they're a poor driver,
Astra 0-60 6.6, 0-100 15.5, top end 152
ST170 0-60 8.4, 0-100 24.8, top end 134.

The officially timed test figures for the GSi are:
0-60: 6.6 seconds
0-100: 17.3 seconds
Top Speed: 138mph (achieved at Milbrook Proving Ground which is a banked circuit)
I don't think the SRi turbo has ever been officially timed by a magazine, but since it has just 8bhp less than the GSi it can't be far off the figures quoted above.
17th Apr 2006, 18:25
The heavier Astra Coupe turbo has been officially timed at 7.3 seconds from 0 to 60. Because of the lower weight, the Astra SRi turbo hatch will beat that time by at least a few tenths of a second.... although it probably wouldn't quite match the slightly more powerful GSi's time (6.6 seconds).

Sri is 35kg lighter than gsi, remap meant for improve smoothness, sri more raw power.

I am one of the owners of a flame red Astra SRi Turbo and am also a regional organiser for a well known Astra site.
There are only 500 of these cars and 20 in red. The other 2 colours available are Silver and Black.
The facts about the car are that vauxhall declared the car as 189bhp to make insurance companies view the car as slightly underpowered, and therefore giving it a group 15 rating. However, every one that I have seen on a rollers has hit 200+. The GSI is the same car and same setup, but has a revised map to make the power delivery smoother.
The cars book performance is 0-60mph in 7 seconds, but I can assure you it is closer to 6 seconds. My last 1/4 mile time at Santapod raceway was 14.6 sec @ 96mph. to give you an idea of the 0-100mph.
People whom have driven these cars think they are not that quick. The reason for this being that power is introduced low in the rev range and is progressive. This therefore doesn't give you the aggressive 'kick' that say an escort cosworth would give you.
The SRI Turbos were also given a slightly stiffer suspension package than the GSi as the suspension is OPC.
My car is presently tuned to 239bhp and 310ibft and can easily stay with a standard WRX Impreza. However, I would assume the P1 would be a different matter.
I hope the above will be of more use.

As above, I am one of the lucky owners of a flame red SRI Turbo. My car is totally standard and will consistently complete 0 to 60 in around 6.5 seconds.

'yea they are fast and they put you in the seat, but at the end of the day it's a vauxhall!!'
So why did you buy it then?
29th Nov 2008, 09:29
I also am a lucky owner of the red SRi turbo Astra. I love it. Especially when you get someone behind ya in a Merc or a BMW, then you just leave him standin sniffin your smoke. I don't know what power its got and don't really care, I just know it's better than my mate's GSi.

I have a mk4 Astra SRi Turbo in black, currently running a stage 4 remap by Courtney, 272.8 bhp and 326ft/torque.
Left the GSi standing!! Easily beat the Subaru WRX (but then the undercover Golf R32 caught up to me LOL), ST170s have no chance, playing with an M3 is also fun, don't think he could drive though.

I have a red SRi Turbo. I don't know what power it's got at all. I've not looked after it, though it gets used for work and it's got paint all over it. I've never had brakes changed at the rear, and I've never changed the air filter. But it's still mint. I don't believe in making it any faster than what it is, cos it already annoys enough people for me.

I have a black SRi turbo running Courtenay stage 4, with larger plenum, Milltek Decat, and 303bhp 342lb/ft. It smokes a mk1 Focus RS, and an M3 is good fun as they're pretty much equal.
The 0-60 time, if I get grip, is around 5 seconds. With an LSD it would be considerably faster. Top speed, don't know, but it revs to 7400 RPM, although I don't like revving it that high.

Standard sp9000's.
