1997 Vauxhall Calibra 2.0i 16v Ecotec from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An affordable everyday sports car

Faults:

Oxygen sensor went at 93,000 miles, but the supermarket has recently admitted liability for this due to dodgy fuel.

Engine cooling fan switch broke, but this only cost 15.00 pounds to fix.

Other than this, nothing more than regular maintenance issues have gone wrong with the car.

General Comments:

This car is seriously quick and handles like it's on rails.

If you want an affordable sports car that you can use everyday, buy one of these. Under everyday driving conditions, it costs as much as a normal family car, and yet if you push it a bit it is an excellent ride, but won't guzzle the fuel.

Never want mine to die, will keep it forever as it is the best car I have ever owned.

And still looks excellent for a car which was originally released in the early 1990's.

1997 Vauxhall Calibra V6 2.5 V6 24v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent

Faults:

Nothing so far.

General Comments:

The car is the dogs boll*x for the money you pay; very fast, and still looks gorgeous..

It handles well, and is comfortable on long journeys. I use mine daily to get to work; a lot better on fuel than I thought if driven sensibly!!

1997 Vauxhall Calibra 2.0 Ecotec from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Top notch in the lower class of sports cars

Faults:

The idle valve I have stripped and cleaned approximately every 3 months, my baby tends to cut out on braking, once valve is cleaned this rectifies itself for approximately 2 months then the cutting out starts again on braking.

Currently I am having major problems with the electrical system and today my baby has gone into garage for the 3rd time in a month.

General Comments:

I love my baby, I wanted 1 on 1st production, but my (ex) husband wouldn't let me, years later I purchased 1 myself and still my feelings have not changed about this car, even the current problems shes suffering at my expense is not faltering how proud I am to own a Calibra. I will continue to put my cash into repairs for my baby rather than purchase a younger car of another brand (though understandably 1 day I may have to if my baby, I will concern myself with that thought if/when it happens).

If you love your Calibra & are having persistent faults, you have probably got 'a bad 'un'.

I've had 4 now & I love them. My 1st was a pig, but the other 3 were great. (I've still got one & would get another without hesitation). Dirt cheap to run & you can pick one up for 'pocket money'. Petrol consumption is brilliant, & most of all, they still look like a car!

Sell it & buy another!

Check no sensor lights showing. HAPPY motoring!

1997 Vauxhall Calibra 16v Ecotec 20i from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A good looking good performing car

Faults:

Not a thing!

General Comments:

A nice looking car with decent performance that I have improved with a custom exhaust, an induction kit and I've also Super chipped her! Also added after market alloys.

Nice interior with leather seats, however they do get a bit uncomfortable on the lower back during long journeys!

Huge boot.

1997 Vauxhall Calibra 2.0 16V ECOTEK 2.0 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Impressive

Faults:

None as yet.

However I bought some 5 stud chrome wheels to put on it however it works out that the turbo version only has 5 stud not the ecotek version, anybody want to buy some 18" wheels? brand new? only for a turbo mind you!!

General Comments:

Really nice car, this is my 3rd car and I am only 18, its 2.0 16v in metallic purple.

Before this I had a civic, modified to the extreme, but wanted to move on to a luxury/cruiser car. well worth the money, bit on the expensive side mind you for a calibra.

I recently bought a calibra 16v for a dirt cheap price. After owning many other Vauxhalls, this is the best. Knowing that the head gasket was on its way out and it needed sorting out for its MOT. it was worth getting it fixed, because these cars are real head turners and still hold their value, if looked after. Keep on top of the maintainance side of things mate and it will look after your wallet in the long run!
