2002 Vauxhall Corsa sxi 1.2 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Poor handling in the wet

Faults:

Extreme front break wear resulting in new disks and pads fitted.

Handbrake cable failure (nearside)

CV boot retaining clamp breaking and coming loose.

General Comments:

Poor jumpy handling on poor road surfaces.

Very poor grip at the rear in the rain (can be quite a handful even at low speeds)

I still like the car, but slight play is staring to become apparent on the steering rack (picked up on its first MOT)

2002 Vauxhall Corsa SXi 1.2 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Cheap reliable car, safe in an accident

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong at all, but it was involved in an incident below.

General Comments:

Bought the car new and overall am very pleased with it. But 3 months later due to a mysterious double tyre blow out at very high speed in the outside lane of the M4 the car collided with the central reservation at around 70mph. Was impressed with car both driver and passenger walked away. Car was blitzed, very severely damaged it was visibly bent. Unfortunately I was not so impressed with Vauxhall when on arrival of the car at the storage yard had to ask what car it was as it was unrecognizable. But then during the next three months they decided they were not going to write it off. the car was re shelled had new sub frames and inner panels too to name a few as both front, back and sides suffered severe damage. Bill in the end cost more than to write it off. It was unfortunate as now I have a car that I no longer want thanks to Vauxhalls incompetence, and inability to mention the old for new policy for cars under a year old almost out of spite. The car all round is as good as it was new, and actual service from Vauxhall is cheap and very good, and the car is very safe, so I couldn't give it low ratings as this may just be a one off.

2002 Vauxhall Corsa Club 1.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A nice looking reliable bargain

Faults:

No real problems.

There was an annoying rattle that was really annoying.

The brakes seemed to give a light squeal at low speeds sometimes.

General Comments:

Generally a good first car, I bought it nearly new in July 2003 but sold it at the end of Jan 2004 because I was leaving the country.

Apart from the rattle I mentioned above it was an excellent car to drive, especially considering the cost.

I took the car into the dealer three times to fix a rattle or clicking noise that seemed to be coming from the seat belt pillar. Each time I put it in, I got it back with a list of things they had done, but it never seem to fix it. This was annoying, but oh well.

Has anyone else had rattles in a similar place?

The general build of the car outside is class leading, inside there seemed to be a lot of different creaks and squeaks for a newish car, but it was still a nice interior.

I will be getting another Corsa at the beginning of next year when I return, but I hope to get a new look SXI model this time though - a bit sportier.

Vauxhall Corsas are good cars generally, there seems to be a lot of bad reviews about them, but look how many are on our roads. Even if you look at other manufacturers reviews, some cars seem worse.

I agree with the rattle coming from the seat belt pillar. I noticed it while being on bumpy roads.

Hi there. I see you are thinking of buying a later Corsa. Myself I would steer clear of the Corsa D as they have mega issues: water pump and cracking cylinder heads. Find a different make of car.
