2009 Vauxhall Corsa SXi 1.2 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Rust bucket

Faults:

Front and rear sub frame rusted terribly (common on these).

Electrical items could sometimes not work.

Rattly suspension.

Blowing exhaust.

Poor performance and economy even by the engine's standard. Maybe there was an issue, but no engine management light to indicate a problem.

Cosmetic rust.

List goes on.

General Comments:

Buy a cheap run about and you can't expect much, but this car was terrible.

Problems right from the start. But it looked OK when I bought it though.

Boring to drive, slow and not that economical either.

Cramped interior.

Vauxhall dealers were uninterested, find a friendly local mechanic.

The amount of rust was unbelievable. Clearly an abused car. A nicer condition one might be a different story, but do check the sub frame on these when buying a used Corsa. I'll probably scrap this one soon.

Given the age of the car, it doesn't surprise me you have had rust problems.

2009 Vauxhall Corsa SXi 1.2 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Generic hatchback

Faults:

The usual wear and tear expected due to age and mileage. No major faults.

General Comments:

The Corsa is nothing exciting, but if you want a reliable runabout, take a look at them, lots on the used market right now for a reasonable price.

1.2 is slow but does 45 mpg along with cheap insurance.

SXi has electric windows, alloys and A/C. Comfortable and refined for a smaller car.

Was already over ten years old when I bought it, and it is still soldiering on, sturdy little car.

2009 Vauxhall Corsa Design 1.2 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Still a good modern car

Faults:

Timing belt and water pump (well worth doing if you want to keep the car long term) plus servicing.

Suspension parts cost me a bit at last MOT, but no big deal at age and mileage.

Air con needs a re-gas.

Cosmetically looking tired, but it is over 10 years old.

General Comments:

Bought this a few years ago as a cheap runabout and has been one of the best value for money cars I have owned, cheap tax + insurance and repairs.

Motorway cruising will get you well over 40 miles per gallon as well, good for an older petrol car.

Design model is a decent spec, has the usual electrics, comfortable seats, nice alloy wheels, etc.

The car is very quiet and refined for a smaller car; I thought it would be rough and noisy, but it has surprised me in that regard, very relaxing to be in for a small car.

1.2 is just about fast enough, but I'd bet the bigger engines are probably better. Overall for a 2009 car it still feels very modern and has plenty of life left in it.
