1995 Vauxhall Vectra SRi 140 2.0 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A cheap fun car with performance and space

Faults:

The water pump went at 80000 and the cam sensor went at 62000 apart from these faults no problems.

General Comments:

As a general all rounder I can't fault this car it's cheap to run reliable and quick surprises hot hatches.

The 2.0 liter engine sounds great when thrashed and seems to thrive on abuse.

Interior carpets are made of tissue paper or seem to be mine are falling apart rapidly.

Rear vision is not the best on the market, but if you use your mirrors you will be okay.

1995 Vauxhall Vectra GLS 1.8 petrol injection from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Decent car, apart from known problems

Faults:

Idle air control valve was faulty and the car stalled at every opportunity.

The Cam belt tensioners smashed after which Vauxhall informed me that the tensioners on my car were in fact part of the faulty batch. No compensation from them for repairs.

Been to the garage around 5 or 6 times in 5 months for various things like wheel bearings and water in the plug leads.

The car likes to rev up itself when stationary, usually revs to 1500 revs and stays there for about 5 seconds and then drops to normal. I have even seen the car rev to 3000 and then drop.

General Comments:

It is quite a nice and comfortable car to drive. But the handling is suspect.

Good facilities like full electric package, good speaker system.

Very quiet engine, but tends to roar its head off as you reach 70mph.

The acceleration in low revs is dreadful, but above 3000-3500 vast improvement. For some strange reason the power is at the top end of the scale rather than lower down the gears.

If you are going to buy a Vectra, check that all the bug have been fixed, e.g. Idle air control valve, tensioners, revving.

1995 Vauxhall Vectra CDX 1.7 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Faults:

The only significant problem was when the a/c failed and it took the dealer 3 (yes three) goes to fix it, each taking two days.

General Comments:

Company car that has now covered 80k miles in three years. Fuel consumption and performance noticably worse than the Cavalier 1.7TD it replaced (well it is 400lbs heavier!)
