Sorry guys, but to say that all Vectra's are bad is pretty shallow don't you think?
The same could be said about any car that has been abused, even brand new (top name) cars have problems; a friend of mine had a brand new 3 Series BMW, and had nothing but problems with it, and ended up having a replacement car.
I have had two Vectras at both ends of the range. I now have a 2.5 V6 SRi, which I've owned for 6 months, I have just taken it for an MOT (of which it passed no problems), not bad for a 1999 car.
It's a jack of all trades in my eyes, and is clean & sweet running. A lot of car for just over £1000 with 125,000 miles on it.
Each to their own...
P.s, oh by the way, it is quicker than a ST24.

Faster than an ST24 slightly in a straight line, but the ST24 is much faster in the corners ;)

Hi, I have owned 4 Vectras in the past 10 years, and I can say I have never had any problems with any of them that I have owned.
My latest one is a 2000 1.8 SXi, which I have just bought in mint condition with a full Vauxhall service history.
Just like any car, I think if they have been looked after and serviced properly, they should be reliable.
All in all, I cannot fault this car.

Sorry to hear that your Vectra was a pile of rubbish. I have had my 2 litre XEV Ecotec for 6 years now, and I must admit I will not get rid of it till it dies, as it's the cheapest car I have ever run. Also very easy to repair and service. I only had 1 minor problem, and that was the camshaft sensor. Other than that, it was the basics like tyres and 1 complete exhaust system, which was cheaper to buy than part buying... Also my car has done over 110 thousand miles, and is still going strong...

Hi, re your comments on the ST24, I now am into my 4th car, and I street race every weekend. My latest car is 1999 standard with 38,000 on the clock. I paid £2,400. I can tell you that a V6 Vectra is 1 second slower 0-60 and 2.2 seconds slower 0-100 mph. Also, the top end of a Vectra is 135 mph, ST is 146 mph. If you wanna race for pink slips, let me know anytime.

It's like any car really, how they have been treated early in life. I had a Vectra SRi 140 for 2 years with no major problems, and had a new Mondeo 1.8 LX, and the gearbox went at 70k; just the luck of the draw with used cars. Sometimes you get a good one, others you get a pig in a poke. My advice would be take it on a very long test drive, and then go by your gut instinct, trust me it's normally right. If you smell a rat, walk away and look at more, don't just buy the first car you see.
