2001 Vauxhall Zafira Club 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

It is an OK car

Faults:

Oilleak around the head gasket. Electrical problems.

Kept jumping when changing from 1st to 2nd gear, as though it was going to stall.

General Comments:

Boot space not adequate when all seats are in position, especially when having to carry a wheel chair.

2001 Vauxhall Zafira Comfort 1.8 from UK and Ireland

Faults:

A gentle low hum appears from the front end after an hour of normal driving. It is not a particularly worrying fault, although if it gets worse it will be investigated.

General Comments:

Generally the best car I have owned in thirty eight years of motoring. Even at 74000 miles the engine sounds new, and the vehicle is the most useful load carrier of its size I can imagine.

Mind you, my last car was an Audi A4, probably the most irritatingly badly designed vehicle ever!

2001 Vauxhall Zafira Elegance 2.2 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Very good all rounder, but interior boring

Faults:

Fuel consumption of my 2.2 petrol very poor.

Poor clutch bite point, far too high.

Gear box selection wearing at 75000 miles.

General Comments:

As this Zafira is a later model than others listed on this site, I suspect that Vauxhall have dealt with most of the earlier problems as there are no major faults to report.

This is a company car and has been incredibly versatile during company use and home use. It has stood up to 75000 miles worth of medium to heavy use in 3 years.

The 2.2 petrol engine is powerful and fast. At times having the edge over GTI type cars. However, driving in this style increases fuel consumption drastically. Performance is only slightly reduced with a full 7 person or 5 adults and luggage load.

The load area has easy access for all manner of loads, utilizing the variable rear seat arrangements.

The slightly higher seating position gives good back & leg support for my 6 foot, 2 inch frame.

Interior is very bland and boring, but controls are well laid out and easy to operate.

The air conditioning is good in both summer and winter use. Front seat support could be better.

2001 Vauxhall Zafira Club 2.0 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A good all round vehicle

Faults:

Engine management light degrading cars performance.

General Comments:

A very good all round vehicle. V good seating design due to the FLEX 7 system. Had issues with the car form new, 6 months into having the vehicle the engine management light lit up and the car ground to a crawl. Intermittent issue, but very annoying when pulling out!. took it to the dealers, they could not find anything wrong, suggested I top up with oil as it was very low (only had the car for 6 months!). Oil added but still faulty, next they opted for the vacuum when came back, etc. Still an issue and it appears to be a common fault with these models. Apart from that issue, all has been good and generally pleased with the car.

2001 Vauxhall Zafira Comfort SE 1.8 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A great all round performer

Faults:

Absolutely Nothing has gone wrong which can be accredited to a fault of the car.

The front brake disks and pads got replaced at 27K, one side was binding slightly and caused uneven wear, but this was down to a build up of brake dust and an unseasonably dry UK (no rain to wash the dust off). If I had thought I should have hosed the brakes when I clean the car.

General Comments:

The performance is outstanding, but unfortunately this leads to low MPG. The best I have managed is 27 mpg driving as frugally as possible.

Build quality is excellent, our car was built in Germany and it shows.

Handling is very good, but be prepared for the traction control kicking in if you push hard around bends and roundabouts, especially in the wet.

I have seen an indicated 135mph on an Autobahn, and the car was rock solid.

2001 Vauxhall Zafira Club 2.0 TDI from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A good value MPV

Faults:

Persistent problems with the rear brakes. They are noisy when reversing and braking. The dealer has already attempted to resolve the problem twice by replacing the pads (at 7000 miles) and subsequently making a Vauxhall recommended modification. On both occasions the fix worked briefly, but the problem returned. It seems that the calipers are a problem with the Zafira.

The paintwork seems to scratch and mark very easily. Although this is not a problem from a rust perspective it is annoying in cosmetic terms.

General Comments:

The handling of the car is very good for a seven seater. I have previously driven the Galaxy and Ulysse and would rate it better than both.

Fuel economy is decent, coming in at about 41 to 43 miles per gallon. Not a patch on my old Montego diesel, but you can't have everything.

Seating is very comfortable and the two rear seats are excellent, considering that they are the fold-down ones.

I had this problem with the brakes also.

The dealer fitted dampers 6 months ago and it seems OK now.
