1988 Volkswagen Fox GL Sport 1.8 from North America
Summary:
Best mileage and dependability of any car I've owned
Faults:
The rear main seal leaked onto the clutch.
Head gasket blew at 101,000 Miles.
Wiper switch went bad at 140,000.
General Comments:
I loved this car! I commute over 80 miles per day and was getting between 33 and 38 mpg.
Car had plenty of power on the Colorado mountains considering the size of power plant.
My biggest complaint is the drivers side wheel well footrest will put your foot to sleep.
I liked it so much we bought a new 2002 Jetta for my wife and I am buying a low miles Audi 4000 Quattro for my new commute of 120 Miles each way. Just figure the Audi will be more comfortable for the longer drive. My brother in law is the proud new owner of my Fox and he loves it also. I was never a foreign car lover until a friend talked me into this Fox after trying his 91 Fox.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
