1978 Volkswagen Golf GLS 1.6lt (CARB) from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A quaint little pocket rocket

Faults:

I bought the car for $200, and as can be imagined, it was in bad shape. None of the electrics worked, the brake lines where rotted through, and the suspension was so bad, the car would still wobble from the speed hump you passed a kilometer back.

General Comments:

The simplicity in the Golf's design made it quite easy to repair from home, with the aid of a technical manual. The golf in full working order is a formidable machine for it's size, the GLS (which preceded the GTI) is a fast and well balanced machine, using a twin barrel carburettor to to fling the 850kg machine to 100km/h in about 8 seconds, not bad for the "People's Car." The VW is spacious enough inside to fit 2 adults of 6 ft very comfortably and has plenty or carry space.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
