1996 Volkswagen Jetta GLX 2.8 VR6 DOHC from North America
Summary:
Fast, fun, luxury at a fair price
Faults:
My only complaint about this car is the check engine light that constantly appears and that the ignition coil pack is poorly designed. Pretty much since I bought the car, it would hesitate in cold, damp weather, but just until it warmed up. Apparently, this is due to the coil pack cracking, causing arcing that leads to misfires in the spark plugs. I've recently replaced the coil pack and the car runs better than ever.
General Comments:
I love this car. It's very quick and it handles quite well. Contrary to complaints about sore legs, I find the interior comfortable, especially on longer drives.
The 5-speed shifts easily and smooth, allowing for excellent acceleration.
The cargo space is very adequate as well.
Some of the parts for the vehicle can run slightly pricey. ie. oil filters.
Fuel economy is decent - I average about 25 mpg.
Overall, I would definitely buy another one.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

If you shop around like I did, you can get the coil-pack for $230. I got mine from www.ecstuning.com.

I just bought a vr6 with 191,000 miles and I just have done a small tune up. I drove my car last week from Oklahoma to California is a 20 hours drive just stopping for gas. Now I am back to Oklahoma the car has 195,000 and the car feel strong and fast. I love driving this car for long trips it's comfortable and it's strong engine easily you could go from 60 to 90 mph in 5 gear.

I have a 1999 Jetta GLX VR6 (5spd). I tend to agree with the assessment. In particular I empathize with the problem experienced with the coil pack. Is it possible to get information on the approximate cost of this, quote from dealer was $600 for the coil alone.
