2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8 turbo from North America
Summary:
Horrible
Faults:
You name it, it has gone wrong. From all four windows falling through the door at one time or another, to the ignition coil. It fails emmission testing every year for 3 - 4 different reasons, bad seat heaters, stereo has died. Sensors have been replaced every year at inspection, only to have the engine light go on 10 miles after I drive off the lot, every time.
Plastic molding is peeling off doors.
Interior lighting for my console is intermittent.
General Comments:
Love the drive, but hate the quality of this car. Would NEVER buy another VW... EVER!!!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

My 2001 Jetta VR6 has been a nightmare since 5,000 miles when the catalytic converter died. Since then, it has been replaced four more times! VW considers this "normal" for a Jetta. The car has been towed eight times since 2001. When I went for an oil change, I was informed that I didn't have any working brake lights. I drove the car to the dealership where they told me they would replace it for free because it was a recalled part. Why wasn't I informed? As other owners experienced, both driver's side windows fell in - yet another recall. My check engine light is constantly on because something is always wrong with the car. I'm still paying it off, mostly because I keep sinking my money into repairs. Do not buy a VW! Please, save yourself the agony and get a car from a company that cares about its products. My friends all laugh at my car stories; they couldn't believe VW put out such a horrible car. VW's reputation for quality is over. Don't be taken in by shiny exteriors, VWs are a sham.
