2002 Volkswagen Jetta Wagon from North America
Summary:
Burns oil and sucks my life away
Faults:
Burns oil (up to 3 quarts in 2000 miles)
Leaking driver door.
Fabric on doors came off.
Headlight burns out every few months.
Tail light burns out every few months.
Brake light burns out every few months (the last time lasted two weeks! "Nothing wrong with the car" they say.)
Dealership said that yes I could get a 6 disc changer in my car. Turns out no I can't and if I do the cars computer will die. Nice.
More small problems... too many to list.
General Comments:
Among other problems with the Jetta Wagon I purchased my main complaint is that it burns through oil at a fast rate...2-3 quarts every 2500 miles. This was said to be normal by the dealership, even though service is required by the dealership every 5000 miles! I took it to the dealership this morning because it was nearly empty and its only been 2045 miles since my last oil change. Of course they that this was normal and I asked if this was normal, then should I just drive without any oil for the next 3000 miles? They said "well, no. I guess not". Instead of trying to find out whats wrong with the car they're doing an oil test to know how much oil I've gone through.
I already know how much I've gone through, all of it!
I really dislike Volkswagen. I will never even step on to their dealership again.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I have a 2002 Jetta GLS and my car burns oil like crazy! I have had the same problems with my car. The service department told me to always check my oil when I stop to get gas! You are supposed to check the oil when the car is cold!! They decided to do an oil consumption test while my car was still under warranty. That got me nowhere! It was just to waste time until my warranty ran out. I have had my car now since Feb of 2002 and I have over 104,000 miles on my car. I was having lots of problems with the engine & transmission while I was taking the car to the dealership for oil changes & the regular maintenance recommended. When I started going to my OWN mechanic all of these problems stopped. AMAZING HUH?? My car has had the Automatic shift lock replaced twice in the last 2 years. Boy was that a Joy! Car stuck in neutral the first time and the second time it was stuck in park. Both times I had to have the car towed to the dealership to have the part replaced. AND ITS JUST A SAFETY FEATURE. I am actually taking my car into my personal mechanic tomorrow to have a tune up. My car still burns through oil its been empty a few times... I am going to have them check everything to try to find out what is wrong with it! I can't keep putting oil in my car everything 1000 miles!

Not disputing the other problems you've had with this car, but are you checking the oil after letting the engine stand for at least an hour?
Otherwise you will get a very low reading, and you will be likely to overfill the engine with oil if you top it off. If this happens the engine will burn off excess (or maybe even blow the head gasket).
