2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 5 cylinder from North America

Summary:

My expectations were low for this vehicle, and they have not been met

Faults:

This car is constantly being serviced. The electrical system is totally unreliable. Brake lights, headlights, alarm system, turn signal lights, power outlets have been replaced several times.

Ignition cylinder block had to be replaced last year with 17,000 miles on it. Took over a month to be resolved.

Most recently a low pressure turn off engine light has appeared two days after an oil change!

Engine is very loud for about 30 seconds after initial start up. Never heard this with any other car.

What am I doing wrong? My computer says I am getting 14MPG. Ridiculous.

General Comments:

Car handles well.

Quick in sport mode.

Will never purchase a VW again.

One wonders why you purchased the car in the first place. (given your low expectations)

The noise you describe for 30 seconds after starting the engine is the secondary air injection pump. It adds fresh air to the exhaust in order to reduce emissions. It shuts off after about 30 seconds because by then, ample fresh air is running through the engine.

I have to say ditto to the previous comment; I wouldn't buy a car for which I had low expectations.

With all the electrical problems, it sounds like the car may have been in a flood prior to your ownership.

2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Tiptronic 1.9 turbo from North America

Summary:

Beautiful on the outside - ugly hidden monsters on the inside

Faults:

The transmission is damaged. It's the torque converter... looks like Volkswagen are up to their old tricks again...

The car only has 67 000 kms on it.

Nothing else went wrong, except for the recall that VW fixed without any questions asked.

General Comments:

I took the car into the dealership because there was a loud vibration coming from the front. I thought it was the fuel filter that was clogged or something. I changed it. When I took the bottom panel off to check, I saw a transmission spring, all ground up.

I had to haggle with the dealer to get it done under warranty. To top it all off, I had to be firm to get a loaner. They would not even offer one. They would rather change tires, than fix cars under warranty.

Unbelievable! Never buy VW.

2006 Volkswagen Jetta City 2.0 from North America

Summary:

A good buy, but little on the expensive side if new

Faults:

So far, nothing...

Had a flat tire 3 times. Nothing Volkswagen can do. Tires were fixed for no cost, because of warranty. Service was prompt, and no questions asked.

General Comments:

I drive most time in the city. Mileage is very good, on average approx 7-8 liters at 100km. If I drive to the mountains, I get over 700km on a 55 liter tank.

The car handles really well. Drives smooth.

If you drive faster than 100km/h, the wind noise is too loud. I also don't like how the transmission is geared. At around 120km/h, I am driving with 3500rpm in 5th gear. I guess it is the "city" transmission.

Otherwise, no problem, and I am very happy.

2006 Volkswagen Jetta Wagon TDI 1.9 TDI from North America

Summary:

Economical with an extended warranty only

Faults:

The first problem I had at about 40000 KM. Was the dual mass fly wheel separated on my vehicle.

At about 55000 KM, my clutch started to go and it was replaced.

Then at about 64000 KM, my clutch locking mechanism went and they had to rebuild the entire clutch system again.

Now at 88000 km ,the dual fly wheel has separated again for a second time. This time I hope the check every thing else.

General Comments:

I bought my TDI because I do a lot of commuting to work, and most diesel engines are designed to run 24/7. But I have been have nothing but transmission problems with this vehicle.

Other than that, the only complaint I do have is the cost of the regular oil changes. But what I'm saving in fuel charges every month is almost making my car car payment as compared to my last gas car.
