I own a 2006 Volkswagen Passat purchased new. I have had nothing but problems with this car. EG: replaced 2 A/C condensers and compressors, battery, coil, window lift, engine body throttle, and the problem lights constantly come on. The dealership doesn't know how to stop the indicator lights from coming on.
I have owned five Volkswagens, and the only reliable one was a 1971 Volkswagen beetle. I have spent so much of my time taking the car in for repairs until I am sick to my stomach. What are the engineers at VW thinking about? The Koreans and Japanese can build very reliable cars. German engineering is not what it used to be. They are falling way behind other manufacturers. Volkswagen of America sent me a check to appease me to purchase a new VW. I don't have a good feeling about purchasing a new Volkswagen.
I also own a 2007 BMW 328i, and have had no repair problems. I only want a car to take me from point A to point B without falling apart. There is no comparison between the two cars. The BMW is far superior. I am thinking about buying a Honda Accord or a Hyundai Sonata. For those who have bought a Volkswagen, good luck.

Gosh, you scared me. I looked in the driveway to see if my car was still there!

Thank you so much. I owned a 1980 Rabbit diesel, which I bought in 85 and sold in 1990 with about 150,000 miles. It was Spartan, but a real champ. My major problem was the dealership, which serviced it and would do unnecessary repairs. Once I stopped going to them, I had no problems.
I have been considering a 2005 or 2006 Passat or Jetta diesel, but am now hesitant.
Thanks for the info.

I just traded in a 2004 Jetta GL 2.0 after owning it for 6 years. I always had my car serviced at the dealership. The prices for service were fair, and the car was always returned to me in good working order. In the 6 years and 60K miles (mostly stop and start driving), I never had one single problem with my Jetta. Zip. Nothing broke, nothing failed.
It was my 7th VW. Out of those seven, only one was a piece of crap. And that car had over 140K miles on it when I bought it. I bought my 8th VW, a Passat. So far, nothing wrong. Maybe Volkswagens like me or something.
