Anyone with water pump problems?? Dealer service dept said I need a new water pump (covered by warranty) and a new coolant flange (NOT covered by warranty). Cost to replace flange $350!!!
1) Sounds fishy? Aren't they related and why would 1 be covered and 1 not?
2) Anyone else with this issue?
Otherwise, my car has been great. I am the original owner. In retrospect, my major regret is buying one of the 50BILLION silver ones I see out there.

I own a 2001 VR6, "Blue". This was my first major purchase and almost 2 years and 30K miles later "Blue" is doing GREAT!!! This is an awesome car and The best thing about "Blue" is that no matter where we are someone always has something positive to say. What can I say the car is BAD to the bone. This by far is and was one of the best purchases I have ever made. I'm loving it!

I have a 2001 vr6 that I love it to death, but I put an super charger on it that added 120 horses to the thing and destroyed the transmission. It cost me 1200.00 bucks to get it fixed, but still there is no love lost. Before the tranny went out I could do 170 in my vr6 with ease. GO JETTA!

I just bought a used GLX VR6 two days ago and I have fallen in love already. Has a lot of highway mile on it 125K, I got a good deal on it. Hope I don't get any problems. Anyone know how much to change timing belt on this Jetta.

I have a 2001 VR6 with 103,000 miles. Only problems so far was Timing Chain Tension bolt loosened and came through cover, but was fixed under warranty at 99,000 miles:) Only issue is requirement of Premium gas which cost additional $$. As for prior post the VR6 does not have a timing belt but a timing chain.

I also just purchased a 2001 Jetta VR6. Only 40,000 miles, one previous owner. After I bought it, I started doing research, and have found nothing, but negatives! Glad to see some positive things! About 500 miles later, so far so good!

I purchased my Jetta, used, with 62,000 miles and all I can say is wow. I have since put on an additional 11,000 miles. My water pump did fail, but I got it replaced for cheaper than my honda would have cost. This thanks to EPG. As for the driving experience; it is a very smooth and comfortable, yet sporty drive. The options on my car (GLX) rival the nicest of European luxury sedans. oMg, nO wAi...1337 H4x012s 4123 c0/\/\1/\/6!!!1111.

I bought a 2001 VW Jetta VR6 last year, and I have only put about 8,000 miles on it since then, and yes, I had to also replace my water pump, and it needed a new starter right after I got it, but it was covered under a warranty.
Since then the only problem I have had with it was my driver's side electronic seat won't move forward or backward any more. Just electrical problems so far. But it's a fast car, and very fun to drive!

I have a 2001 silver Jetta GLX, and it has been nothing but one problem after the other since I bought it. It's always the same problem -- the water pump, the belt tensioner, the radiator fan, the water pump again, more belts, spark plugs misfiring, mass airflow sensor "misfiring," and the "check engine" light constantly turning one. I will never purchase another VW again. The worst car I have ever owned.

The side coolant flange is covered by the 100,000 mile warranty on the 2001 Jetta VR6.

Does anyone have more details on the warranty coverage of the coolant flange? I just paid $640 to have mine replaced for my 2001 Jetta VR6 with 72k miles. I had no choice but to go to the dealership. My VW mechanic said he couldn't get to the part without special tools!

As for the Sept 13th guy said, if you're having recurring problems with the same parts, you're either buying defective pieces or your mechanic isn't installing them properly... and for the guy that said his repair cost him $640 at the VW Dealer... if your mechanic said he doesn't have the right "tools", then he is definitely NOT a VW mechanic...
