Oh No, don't buy a 2002 one...nothing, but trouble...
Don't you see all the negative reviews here?
Read mine...called= A disgrace and rip off, a shame for VW who hides the problem.
You'll get further if you buy a bike then a VW 2002 Polo.
We're about to sell it back to the garage... and I really hope they will use it for spare parts and not sell it to anyone else... being in the garage 14 times in nearly 4 years is a hell.

RE: REVIEW FROM 10th Apr 2006.
What rubbish! I've had an 02 plate polo for 2-years now with not one single fault. Just because you bought a lemon doesn't mean you have to try put someone off. I would recommend the car and I can't think of a better small car in the Polo's price range.

There is no way that this would be the best car in its class. Have you considered the Toyota Yaris or Honda Jazz. These cars may be driven by elderly drivers, but at least they are reliable!

I have a 2002 Polo 1.2. It has failed to start on several occasions including this morning, and has had to be taken to the dealer 16 times in 12 months for various ECU problems, and has had a new cat and 3 new coil packs. Don't buy this car, it's terrible.

I bought a 2002 Polo from new. Nothing but trouble time and time again. The car went in to the dealers so many times now I have just given up on it. New coil packs fitted x2, ECU faults x3 (problem never sorted, only reset the ECU), and now the ABS module has failed. I was in the process of selling the car when the ABS module failed, but it looks now that I'll be keeping it for a while as I can't afford the £600 plus vat price tag. Also I'd like to add it seems that Volkswagen/Audi have a problem with ECUs across the range. A friend's Audi TT has had faults on his, as well as my father's mk5 Golf.

I have had my Polo since new - 2002. It has had 3 new coils (the first after 6 months, the dealers told me NOT to drive it to them so as not to cause any more damage, but as this occurred at Xmas it was 3 weeks before they could do it - and guess what, they collected the car and DROVE it back!!!), the brakes have squeaked from day one but no fault can be found, and lately the ECU has gone. I had a reconditioned one put in 4 months ago, but that has gone too! When she runs well, she really runs well, but when there is a problem, it is BIG!

Thank you for your comments. I am just buying my first car at 18 and was lucky to come across this page. I was considering a 2002 Polo.
