1985 Volkswagen Scirocco Storm 1.8i from UK and Ireland
Summary:
Modern classic
Faults:
Engine replaced at 130000 by Volkswagen to ensure full performance.
Two new fuel pumps. This was due to original repair (Volkswagen main dealer) not having replaced the rusty fuel filler neck or cleaned out the fuel tank. Rusty filler necks are a common problem on the scirocco leading to fuel pump failure.
Other than that, standard exhaust replacement (from manifold to rear box) in 1998. Buying original parts has ensured that these are still as new. Only other items other than regular service have been tyres.
General Comments:
The Scirocco Storm is a limited edition (600 only in Mk2) with every conceivable extra at the time including full leather and trip computer.
The car is still in near showroom condition and handling other than breaks is still exceptional. Non Scirocco drivers may doubt this, but I normally drive a Mercedes (or wife's MGF, the scirocco is my old car I could never bring myself to sell) which other than the mod cons are not as enjoyable.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I don't care what anybody says, these cars are hunks of crap, from the electrical system to the transmission, mine has been nothing but trouble. In fact, it would be quicker to tell you what components didn't break, as compared to components that did!
