2000 Volkswagen Sharan 3.0 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Worthless piece of junk

Faults:

Everything. Failed all day everyday.

Auto transmission constantly going into the "fault" mode.

Engine overheating.

Electrics playing up.

Dashboard behaving like Sydney fireworks - all sorts of fault warning lights flashing and disappearing.

Local dealer refused to touch this car.

General Comments:

Most worthless and horrible piece of junk ever, superseded in uselessness only by Peugeot/Citroen monsters.

2000 Volkswagen Sharan SE 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Perfect 7 seater for large families

Faults:

Only now, after 3 years, are niggling rattles and squeaks starting to annoy me.

Seats weigh a ton each and changing configuration is a pain (in the back!)

Swivel front seats is just a gimmick as it takes too much hassle to actually do it.

General Comments:

Chosen over the Ford Galaxy because it was better equipped and over the Seat Alhambra because of Seat's depreciation.

Very comfortable, especially with the cruise control which works well.

Surprisingly quick and good acceleration between 50 and 70mph.

Incredible load area with all seats out.

2000 Volkswagen Sharan turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good for the school run, but expect the interior to dissolve.......

Faults:

Performance, reliabilty and ride quality is good, but the interior fit and finish is ever so poor. Plastics reminiscent of Tupperware pots. Seats bloody uncomfortable, too flat and too firm, with hardly any side support, so you slide about in corners. Switchgear feels like it came from a Christmas cracker.

Aircon only really cools on full power.

Door fabric bloody cheap and nasty. Sony stereo bloody tinny.

Volkswagen, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

General Comments:

Not a bad car, but the interior is a huge let-down compared to the Golf and Passat.

I was seriously considering purchasing a TDi auto as I drove one for about 4 days, now I'm seriously considering buying a bus ticket, but then they're not much more reliable!
