1990 Volvo 240 GL Estate 2.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A good family workhorse

Faults:

Radiator replaced at 150,000 miles.

Windscreen leaked.

Rear shocks replaced.

Rear tie bar bushes failed twice!

General Comments:

Very well built car that is easy to work on.

Lots of room inside and easy to clean out.

Not a car to worry about if it starts making a strange noise, unlike some tin boxes I have owned.

Handling is not sports-like...

1990 Volvo 240 DL 2.3L from North America

Summary:

This car is a dream!

Faults:

Overheated frequently, had the radiator flushed and now it never overheats.

Needed new brakes (paid for by the seller).

Needed new belts. Will replace the timing belt next month.

General Comments:

I drove past this car every day on my way to work. I had dreams about this car! Finally one day after doing a title search and history on it... it was gone from the dealers lot! I frantically called the dealer, it was getting detailed. I bought it the next day.

My family has had numerous Volvos, the most attractive feature for me is the safety of this car. It's black with a tan interior, is beautiful and I feel good putting my 2 little boys in it.

Hi, my name is Reginald Cheek, I own a 1983 240 DL original Volvo. All the way to the floor mats this car is immaculate, love it to death, wouldn't take a 2001 Vette Z06 for it, just that great.

It's so funny that you have a volvo that is black with tan interior, and you have two boys. I have a 1990 volvo 240 that is black with tan interior, and I also have to boys of my own :) Great minds must think alike :)

I had a 1990 240 DL and it was a very reliable car that handled well, even in winter in the snow!

Weaknesses are electrical in nature, but the engine will go on endlessly.

1990 Volvo 240 GL Estate 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

It's too thirsty

Faults:

Mainly, IT DRINKS, nothing major.

General Comments:

It is big and solid, a strong box and can take heaps and heaps of punishment as everyone says. But it takes a lot of petrol, 11-15 mpg. If you can afford it go for it, or a BMW will work out cheaper.

I have got 8 Volvos and not one of them is heavy on petrol. And I think they are a really nice car to drive, even though the one I am driving at the moment is an A reg it is the most safe car in the UK and other parts of the world. And when I put a gallon of petrol in the beast it lasts for 3 days.

Yours sincerly,

Mr John Joseph Percival
