1986 Volvo 340 GL 1.4 from Egypt

Summary:

It is great car

Faults:

Local dealer (agent) hasn’t got most of the spare parts for this car, but you can find used parts in good condition in the used market.

General Comments:

It is great car, but you have to understand it first.

You have to care about this car very well to get the highest performance.

It is a comfortable car.

1986 Volvo 340 GL from Norway

Summary:

Great, but ugly

Faults:

Well, absolutely nothing!, I only had to change the rubberpachaging on top of the engine.,

General Comments:

It must be one of the uglyest cars and unstable cars ever built, but, but, but somehow you begin to like it, it always starts, and I haven't have any extra costs on it, it's a cool car for a 26 yo man.

1986 Volvo 340 GL 1.3 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Slow in initial acceleration, but always gets there

Faults:

The carburettor seemed loose, upon inspection all three bolts securing it to he lower section were not secure, one requiring re tapping.

Due to corrosion in the front to rear brake pipe it failed the MOT inspection, this was duly repaired.

Both front tie rod bushes were perished. These were obtained from the local Volvo garage at a reasonable price.

The clutch is currently making some noise, believed to by emanating from the thrust bearing.

General Comments:

This car feels like your in a strong metal box. Unlike a number of vehicles on the road today that seem to be very light, with panels that are easily dented, this car gives me the impression that if it were hit by another car, the other car would get damaged more than this car!

It is very comfortable, the door rest by the drivers elbow is exactly right, and makes for comfortable driving.

1986 Volvo 340 DL 1.4 petrol from Sweden

Summary:

A transportational unit that will take you from point a to point b

Faults:

Had to replace the front left doors upper hinge, since the door was lose.

Had to replace starter engine.

The began to shut down the engine, whilst I was driving.

Had to replace the carburetor.

Had to replace the entire fuel exhaust system.

My headlights malfunctioned when level 2 (from 0-2) on the headlight selector was selected.

General Comments:

All in all this is a decent car that will take you from point a to point b.

However it does just that, no more.

Seen to the fact that I have had to do quite a lot of repairs on the car, it hasn't exactly been cheap or trouble-free.

One thing that really have bothered me, is the lack of support for the 300-series from Volvo.

There are very few parts available from Volvo. The parts that they do have are very expensive and usually only reconditioned used parts, instead of new.

A used, reconditioned carburetor or a starter engine costs about 1800 Swedish kr (about 180 Euro).

1986 Volvo 340 GL 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Boring, yet charming

Faults:

The top hinge on the driver side door is missing a pin, so the car door won't shut at the moment.

In bad need of a service.

General Comments:

This car is very ugly, the same colour as dirt, unlike my beloved (dead) Volkswagen Golf, but at £30 you really can't go wrong.

Interior is also ugly and too spongy for my liking, and has faded to a sort of pink colour. Very spacious though, and this makes you feel safe when driving.

When I drive it, I take corners very slow as I'm afraid the door might fly open. It won't shut properly.

It does have a certain something that those with a sense of humour would appreciate. I wouldn't own this car if I had more money, but that said, this is a lot of car for beer money.

Performance is very hit and miss with this car, pulling out of junctions is scary. I think this may have something to do with the clutch biting point. This is also to blame for the wheel spinning nature. Rear wheel drive cars are still a mystery to me.

The look of the front end is attractive, but the rear end is as plain ugly as a skip.
