1999 Volvo V70 V70XC 2.5 turbo from North America
Summary:
Very disappointing ownership
Faults:
ETS light on pretty much since we purchased it.
Throttle module replaced.
Throttle module cleaned 2 times.
Motor mounts replaced twice on drivers side under warranty.
Tie rod ends replaced under warranty.
Driver seat rails replaced under warrany.
Etc, etc, etc.
General Comments:
Not worth the money spent. The most disappointing things on the car have been the throttle module and related issues, and the rear suspension problems.
There has been enough written about the Morelli throttle module to know that it is a piece of junk. This has given me more than enough grey hairs in my head with the time and money spent getting the repairs done. Right now, it is in need of a second replacement.
The other problems stem around the rear suspension. The car goes down the road crooked, always has. It has been aligned 3 different times, twice by the dealer, and it never got rid of the dog-walking. Two street tires and two snows each year because of the misalignment/crappy build quality. Now it needs new Nivomat self leveling shocks, new lower suspension arms bushings etc. in the rear. I spoke with a volvo dealer from texas while shopping for shocks and he said at the time (98,000 miles) that the Nivomats should be fine. Altogether, parts should run close to $1200 plus labor. I have spent close to $1200 yearly on repairs and tires. I have no choice, but to begrudgingly run it untill it falls apart. I am tired of this car soaking my bank account.
This car will run forever if you have a big bank account and don't mind continually taking it to the repair shop. Never again.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I buy a 1999 v70 basic model with 104k in 2004 now I have 148k now, I change a lot of thing like all other brands of cars (brake,suspension, light bulb, etc...) but the major problem is throttle body I change it in 2005. and after change oxygen sensor, oil trap, plug, etc... they (dealer because guarantee parts now) i just get out dealer in Dec 2007 whit 2nd throttle body, and problem is not repairs the rpm still going down around 500rpm when I stop on corner and steering shake, what is the problem may be it is not reparable. but when every thing going good it is a very comfortable and safe car for winter condition.

Talk about feeling your pain, I've experienced everything you mentioned except for the suspension issues! But I also had the viscous coupler (AWD) replaced (under warranty, thank God!), and the ABS control module replace (or did you already mention this?). Plus a few other broken parts (tail gate latch) and many normal wear items (alternator, etc.). At this time I have 97K miles on the car so I'm coming up on the big service which includes the timing belt. Overall, this is the most expensive car, in terms of repair costs, that I've ever owned -- by far! In the past, I've only owned Honda, Toyota, and Nissan and have paid very little in repair or maintenace costs. This car is very nice to drive, but in the future I will stick with Honda/Toyota and save a ton of money.

The ETS module issues are well known, and Volvo extended the warranty to 10 years, 200,000 miles. Maybe you can be reimbursed for the previous replacements - it's worth a shot.
The alignment issues are hardly Volvo's fault and AFAIK not common to this model. You bought a used car that has clearly been damaged, so save that blame for someone besides Volvo.
Mine has been so-so on reliability, but boy do I love driving it.
