2007 Volvo XC90 V8 Sport 4.4L V8 from North America

Summary:

Volvo for Life!

Faults:

So far, nothing has gone wrong with my Volvo.

General Comments:

This is our 2nd Volvo purchased CPO. The XC90 V8-Sport in Titanium Gray 7 passenger. The V8 engine is responsive and strong, and works well with the 6-speed Gear-Tronic transmission with AWD. The interior is exceptional, with typically comfortable Volvo seats in Navy Blue leather, with a Gray sport strip outlining the seats.

The misgiving, in my opinion, is the use of 19" rims. Though they are beautiful, I am not a fan of any rim over 17".

The High Performance Sound System is perfect. The sounds are crystal clear and the ability to adjust the equalizer for front and rear is so nice.

Unfortunately, the V8 from Yamaha had a design flaw that will cause the engine to require expensive repairs from 130k on. It's all because of a small bearing, Volvo tried a small patch but it's still going to fail. 2007 Volvo XC90 AWD 3.2 from North America

Summary:

Excellent performer

Faults:

A (anti-theft) sensor went wrong at 126000Km. I was out of warranty and had to pay $520 for the part and labor.

General Comments:

I am not talking about the car's style or the price, neither am I comparing it to anything else. You can see and decide for yourself if you love it, you hate it, or don't care.

What I want to mention is that I have given a really hard time to this guy on any kind of nasty and tough roads in Quebec, and it has always been stellar.

I have been passing unlimited cars in snow and ice, with double their speed with peace of mind.

On a few occasions - and very carefully - I have used the car off-road, and overall it was fine. I do not expect it to be like a tank for sure.

After 5 whole years of ownership, and now that I recently paid for the 1st (non service) bill, I just wanted to express my appreciation for this well-built beast.

Based on what I see and hear, there should not be more than one or two more bills to pay in the next 5 years either. At that time, I may think what kind of car may replace it.

2007 Volvo XC90 AWD 3.2 from North America

Summary:

I hope Volvo stays Volvo in Chinese hands..

Faults:

One of the headlight bulbs blown! Nothing else I remember :)

General Comments:

This SUV is amazing. You may not feel how well it's designed in a test drive.

I used to own a 2004, which I traded in for this one after hearing horrible stories of their transmission (though mine had no issues). I sure prefer the more powerful engine in the 2007 model.

My only complaint is the radio does not have a "mute" nor a "random" key. I'm sure I can do without it though.

Now I'm just doubting should I keep my awesome car, or trade it in for a 2011 in a few months, before the new Chinese owner converts Volvos to junk :(

2007 Volvo XC90 AWD 3.2 from North America

Summary:

Until death do us part

Faults:

The cloth trim on the pillar, where the seat-belt hits it wore out. It was replaced under warranty, but the dealer mentioned they would not do it more than once.

General Comments:

When I was in the market for the SUV, Lexus was out of consideration because of my bad experience with the brand, and the out of date style. I'm now even more happy when I hear all those horrible stories about Toyota/Lexus line.

I tried several models during the winter 07, and found Infiniti, Acura and Volvo my only options. I liked the Infiniti style the most, and Acura seemed to have the best resale value. However, the ride of car and specs of the Volvo, plus the helpful and professional dealer service made me choose it over the 2 Japanese ones.

I have never regretted a bit during these 3 years and do not believe I would be happier with any other of those SUVs. The XC90 is a little thirsty, but the regular gas that I usually use in city driving, makes it a little more cost effective.

All in all, you don't want to get out of this car and it's the only negative (!) part of owning an XC90 :-)

If you intend on keeping your Volvo and run it into the ground, check out all the blogs regarding common problems, so you know how to reduce the likelihood of problems arising. Some of those cars have transmission problems, so know if yours is that type so you can take precautions (like servicing the gearbox far more frequently than the maintenance schedule requires). Read the reviews here on Carsurvey.org too.

It is indeed a good idea to do preventative measures, but the transmission problems largely only relate to earlier T6 models (pre 2006) with the GM gearbox. Facelift models onwards don't tend to suffer any gearbox issues... it's a shame there are more younger models reviewed on here, but that's probably because they have much fewer problems (excellent cars) and people prefer to moan rather than praise a car! As a result, this 3.2 2007 model should be fine gearbox wise :-)
