1991 Yugo Cabriolet 1.1 4 cylinder from North America
Summary:
A piece of crap, don't buy one
Faults:
Pretty much everything... The engine would break down if you looked at it funny. Not very comfortable.
General Comments:
I thought I was getting a deal when I first bought the car for about $700. I was seriously mistaken. I thought it was neat that it was a convertible, but there are gas scooters more powerful than this car. as a matter of fact a gas scooter would've been more reliable, this thing will break down if you looked at it funny.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

The Yugo when it was imported into the US met the quality control and emissions control of the year of sale, else it could not have been sold.
Comparing a used car with a new car would be pointless, so how about some Co2 emissions data to compare and contrast the cars from the same year of manufacture and production?
Also, you mostly get what you pay for, if you buy a cheap low end car, do not compare it with a more luxurious, expensive model.
The review that this comment is attached to tells us nothing about the car, ownership and sounds like an ill thought out rant.

A thought occurs, how can one own a car and not be sure of the transmission? Either its automatic, or manual.
I suspect this review is a fake.

I agree that a Yugo isn't the best car in the world (not by far), but you got 2 things wrong:
As far as regulations concerning emissions go... 10 Yugos couldn't put out what one gas guzzler does (the H2 being at the top of the game in spewing crap from its 2" muffler).
As far as danger - the car is not equipped with active safety (airbags), but it is light, and so stops fairly quickly, and handles quite like a little race car, thanks to the independent rear suspension and a low center of gravity... so if you drive like you should - you won't get killed.
