1979 Ford F250 custom 2wd from North America - Comments

"Fast ford"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Well it was restored before I got it, but it doesn't start too well because the new starter was installed wrong.

It has bad seals and it leaks.

Some rust appearing on body

could use a new paint job

overall not too bad for a 79

8mpg is considered good.

General comments?

This truck has tons of power and performance parts. It doesn't look too bad and is very fun to drive. I know this truck can smoke any other ford around here.

The next truck I get will probaly be about a Chevy, though I will not sell this truck.

Buy ford, Buy Chevy, but not Dodge, because they suck.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I disagree on the part with you saying you dislike Dodge and are going to buy a Chevy.

The F250's are great trucks, but I think that a 400,4spd., would wipe that gas guzzler!

Also chevy sucks, and Ford Rules!

Hey buddy I love old ford trucks I am 17. years ago my dad bought a 79 1/2 ton with a 351m. when I was little I thought that truck was coolest thing there was. A few years back the truck finally died with over 400,000 miles. oh yeah Dodge and Chevy both suck.

I have an 1981 Ford Truck. I just replaced the original

4.9 with a 1970 460. The 300 had 250,000 miles on it and still ran. The 460 is pushing 460 h.p.

I just bought my firt ford and it's a 250...damm the only regret is not having to buy one sooner... the moment I open and close the door I could tell it was well made, unlike my chevys that I had to push the door up in order to closet right.. I mean don't get me wrong I love chevys, but Iam a ford man now..

Ford F250's are the best trucks on the planet. I had a 79 for 13 years and cried the day I sold it. I love my 93 turbo diesel, but I am looking for another 78 or 79.

The best truck I've ever bought was a 1979 f250 and the all the trucks after that have been 79-78-80 f250 all have 460 with flow masters, duel 4 barrel elberbrok carbs high rise intakes 4 speed trainee's k&n air filters with 16inch rims. (the way ford should have made them) i now own 6 of them and I have to say EAT MY DUST. all my trucks all now black with black seats and dash moldings I've raised two of them up about 20 inches and all are equipped with lighted roll bars fog lamps and air shocks and much more.

Well to help every one out with witch ones better (ford, Chevy, dodge) I don't know, but any time you wish to find out bring your truck on down hear and well race (clear title's only) so far I have a chevy and a Nissan in my backyard ready for me to run over to the scrape yard.

I have a 1977 ford f-250. I also have a 1978 ford bronco. the 3/4 has a 429 cobra jet (out of a 1969 mustang) with almost 600 h.p. some of the goodies are deep sump oil pan, heavy duty oil pump, hedders, high rise intake, trw aluminum pistons, 9:1 compression, shaved crank, holley 750 dbbl pumper, all braided lines, triple core aluminum radiator, mini-torque starter, mallory ignition system (complete), crane cam & lifters (solid), 4" suspension lift, 4" body lift, 3" pipe into flowmaster 2 chambers, front and rear lockers, 4.10 gears by richmond,...no expense has been spared with this truck. oh yeah and 38" super swampers... the bronco is stock with a 400m, c6, 9" rear and a dana 44 up front. I would put this truck against anything out there, aside from a dragster. I eat mustangs and crap camaros. even the cobra ponies can't keep up.

I have bought a 1979 f-250 a few months ago and I am in the process of restoration. When its done its going to have a modified 400 with things like headers, the Cleavland pistons, different cam gear, and who knows what else. It will have a suspension lift with 35" tires. Behind the 400 will be the C-6 with a oil cooler. By the way Buy ford, Buy dodge, Junk the Chevy's.

Hello all--I agree with all of you here that Fords RULE (and 78-79s are great years! But I have to say 1969 is a great year as well. My friend and I have a 1969 Ford F250 that is also something else. It has a 390 that turns about 260 horses (nothing compared to what the rest of you have), but it still hauls quite a bit--like boats and stuff! Has many miles on it, but it will not die! I will never sell it ever, because I'll probably be making a fortune towing dead Chevys off the Interstate with it.

FORD FOREVER!

I just bought a 1978 ford f250 that has only 55,456 miles on it. It has the 351m 400 motor. I am very lucky to find a truck that has been stored in a shop and hardly drove. I also have a 2005 GMC crew cab 3500 and I fill that the old ford is more of a truck.

Hey guys, Fords are the bomb. I have a 79' Ford F-250 4x4 with a 351m, and it's sitting on 33's and has dana 60 front and rear with a granny lo 4 sp. It has towed 35ft goose necks with an L35 case front end loader and backhoe, and I never knew it was there.

My Dad gave me his old '78 F-250 and it is the greatest running vehicle I have ever had. It starts right up and always runs strong. It has a 300 I-6, but 2 wheel drive only. Rusted out doors, and rear wheel wells, the floor boards and the bed are the only things wrong with it, but the engine runs like a top.

Sunday, August 31, 2008.

I just bought a 1978 Ford F250 Custom 3/4 Tonne truck with the original 351m in it. This pick up only has 10,000 miles on it. Everything is sound on it except the body. Paid $500 cash for it. All numbers match on this truck. I don't like Fords that much, because I bought one years ago and it completely fell apart after 1 month. I am though a Chevy fan.

1979s are the better looking trucks of the 70's. I do own a 1979 F-250 w/60 front 60 rear... 400 cubic inches 435/4 speed 205 transfer case, excellent truck and no regrets.

Also I have a 1979 F-150 short-bed, it came with a 300/c-4 auto, now it has a 351 Cleveland from a 1971 Ranchero GT. It has a c-6 trans, runs great.

Also my 1965 F1 Custom has 429 Ci/c-6 from 1971 Galaxy 500 XL. Nice fire engine red, nice very nice.

My daily driver is 1997 F250 Heavy Duty, turbo diesel w/5 speed and 410's...

Yard trucks are one 1965 short-bed, does not run. One 1964 f-1 w/352 and a 1963 uni-body...

I love them all (trucks) but I like my Fords the best.
