We purchased a 2000 S-80 T6 from a Volvo reseller returned from a 3 yr lease in Dec 2002. The car had so many problems, I sold it at a huge loss just 2 years later in Dec 2004. Stalling was rampant. I had it stall out 6 times in one parking lot alone. When it started stalling on the highway at speeds greater than 35 MPH, I got rid of it. Volvo dealers and repair centers had no clue and at $89 to pull the codes was getting expensive. Very hard on tires and brakes. CD changer broke and it costs about $1200 for a replacement or $500 for a swap for a refurbished unit. Volvo dealer told me that they have so many stuck CD's in the changers, that Volvo setup a swap program. Multiple lights had to be changed. Had issues with the suspension and tie rods. This was a horrible, horrible car. Never again.

I own a 1999 T6. Other than normal service issues, which are expected and accepted, the car has been wonderful. As we get close to the 100K mark, this car still rides and drives wonderfully.

I guess I'd have to say, those who are unhappy with his vehicle should be looking at a Hyundai with its 100K warranty.

I have had a Volvo S80 T6 For 3 years, it has 100k on the odometer. The stalling problem you are referring to is the throttle position sensor. After 2 years of stalling they finally replaced it free of charge, and the car has never stalled again!! I am getting some crunchy noises from the front suspension..?? I had replaced the upper motor mount, but that didn't cure it.

I have the 1999 S80 T6 and love the car...however, I have replaced the trans, one turbo, ball joints, struts, springs, engine mounts, coolant tank, power steering tank, computer, auto dim rear view mirror, belly pan fell off, air dam fell off, wind deflector on sunroof, CD player cut off on turns, fuel pump, gas cap, gas cap vacuum line, oil pan, oil pan seals, sump, cooling fans, radiator, driving light, tail light. It's a beautiful car when it runs. It handles great, accelerates great, but it's been a nightmare to maintain. I wish I had extended the warranty. At 88,000 miles I've had enough and want to trade it in.

2000 Volvo S80 - This is the worst car I have ever owned. I bought from a Certified Volvo dealership and thank god I purchased the extended warranty. In 24 months the car has been in the shop 18 times! The car just shuts down while driving. I am afraid to drive this car! It is not safe! Like the other reviews here, I have had problems with just about everything with this car. I will never ever buy a Volvo again.

We purchased a 1999 Volvo S80 T-2 two years ago and it has been a lemon ever since. I have been very glad to see that they are recalling and fixing the electronic throttle for free. I have been in the dealership TWO times and I have a strong feeling that I'll be in there again since it stalled out on me again at the stoplight yesterday. It idles funny sometimes when I'm driving and the power just isn't there. This time I will not let them simply clean it, but will make them replace it. I'm tired of this inconvenience!!

Also, the ABS modulator is shot. It had made us drive with the right brake clamped so we've gone through 2 sets of front brakes. All of the lights are on the car constantly. Today I got my right passenger glass replaced because it had slipped down into the door. The thing that makes the window go up and down has bent and the whole mechanism needs to be replaced...AGH!! Never again will I buy a Volvo.

I agree the 2000 S80 T6 has problems. I don't care about 1999, 1998. It is the 2000 year that is bad. The dealer knows it and so should you! Please read the comments for this model year!!!

I have had to repair my 2000 S80 24 times in the last 2 years. the car looks great, but that's all. I will never buy another Volvo and the trade in value sucks! These cars are lemons and don't you buy one!!!

I am an S80 owner (2000) (non-T) (now 105,000 miles). Help!, please!: Anyone know how rain when it is heavy is getting onto the floorboard under the mat of the front passenger? I have checked the rain gutter of the sunroof for debris, the drain seems clear, also. Now for my over all comments.

Let's face it, when Ford took over and the Volvo body style changed for its flagship vehicle in 1999, quality suffered. Consumers Report continues to report poor maintenance scores for the S-80. I have been fortunate and have only suffered "above average" amounts of problems compared to all S-80s. Most have been handled under the original warranty or the extended warranty: one front end strut with bushings wore out prematurely (warranty work $4,500!), the throttle body has been replaced twice (I was stuck out on road twice, very annoying, required towing), one engine mount, license plate lamps wear out quickly perhaps due to the jarring they receive from the trunk closing, a minor pollution control device failed, and a lamp in the heat/ac control panel went out.

Having said all of that, I love this car! As with BMW and Mercedes, it set new safety standards in 2000. Only recently have the US auto makers realized that safety sells. Japanese also lagged in this, but not as bad. I get 23.5 mph in the city and 28 - 31 mph on the highway depending on the terrain. It is incredibly comfortable, quiet, luxurious, and handles well (for my mid age conservative driving habits!). The brakes have always been touchy, but the S80 is known for excellent braking. I am sorry everyone has had worse problems. I plan on keeping the car a long time. Tacoma, Washington.

I own a 2000 S80 T6 and I love the vehicle, but I also suffer from the typical maintenance issues. For anyone that suffers a bad ABS module, I think that I have found a way to save a lot of money. Go to this website and look it over, http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/. The module is very easy to remove, in fact I just did it and it took only 20 minutes. You then ship the part in and they will fix it instead of you having to replace one, which will probably cost around $800.00. I have found 2 different sites that will do this repair; one for $100 and the other for $140. I still have not re-installed it, but from feedback, everyone that does this seems to be very pleased.
