Wow.. that's nuts! You must not have owned a Jaguar X-Type. I've had mine for 6 years... and when I first bought it, luckily it had a manufacturer warranty, because it spent more time on the flat-bed tow truck to Jaguar than in my possession. I kept taking it in due to transmission issues, they kept giving it back to me, telling me that there was not an issue... guess what? As soon as the warranty expired, the transmission went. The problem is that they are famous for a piston cracking in the transmission, causing the clutch to fall apart and block the filter - not allowing the fluid to flow freely... what a mess! And it's over $3k to fix it.

The moon roof automatic open & close button doesn't work; the vent near the windshield popped out on the passenger side...

The car is pretty, and that's all it is. I would recommend you pass on your dream of owning one of these...

Been driving my 3.0 X Type through recent northern Michigan blizzards. It has been better than my old Range Rover County Classic for traction.

Also I have only had to replace the brake pads and a wheel bearing in the last 2 years. I have put about 30000 miles on it in that time, and it has been trouble free. Although I notice the previous owner replaced the transmission under recall.

I put Lucas in the engine and pay close attention to fluid changes and maintenance. If you don't, even a Toyota or Volvo will fail, and I have seen both brands do so at low miles recently. Cars are usually as reliable as their owner's maintenance efforts are diligent.
