I have a 2007 VW Polo Comfortline. I have had the same problem for months now. I took the vehicle to VW and an independent auto-electrician, and both could not find anything wrong with the vehicle.

I changed the car's battery in July 2011, and during December 2011 the problem return. The vehicle was due for service during Dec 2011, so I had VW check the electrical system as well. They could not find any fault. I had the vehicle's battery tested, and the Battery Centre said the battery I had in the vehicle is fine. They gave me a different battery to test in the car, and the vehicle seems to be fine for now.

Hi! I'm having the exact same problems! Could you ever get this resolved? My kilos reset by itself, handbrake light came on with a beeping alarm, also ABS, and immediately afterwards, the steering light came on, no power steering. Switched the car off and it was fine again. Too scared to drive it again now. If you can, please help!?

Hey, it seems to be all Polos, when they reach higher mileage, they cause all this tension. I'm driving one, but I'm stuck since I don't know where else to go. I took it to 4 dealers, but all of them never find any fault. What worries me is that it makes me fight with people, because they don't see anything, whereas I see something. Have you got a solution? If yes, please share it with us. I'm stuck.

Did you ever get a diagnosis from VW?

We have also had this problem with a 2007 Polo within three months of buying it from a VW dealership - first the ABS/brake warning lights started beeping when braking, then going off again, then the steering wheel system warning light came on and went off a few times, and this morning when the steering light flashed up, we lost the power steering. Also the digital radio display has disappeared once or twice.

We are hoping to be able to get it sorted under the three month warranty, but if they refuse I would be interested to see what the diagnostic is from others (and the cost of repair!).

I'm having exactly the same problem, and also no solution yet. Someone said it could be an earth problem, but I have had that checked out, and still the same problem.

Hello,

Did anyone resolve the problem of the intermittent failure of power steering associated with the ABS warning light and the resetting of the LCD clock. The fault seems to reset when the engine is switched off and on again. It sounds like a damp / electrical / earth / control unit failure. Is it related to a sensor to control PAS changes for slow or higher road speeds? The car is a 2009 1.4 diesel.

Hi,

Has anyone had any luck, since I have the same problem with my Polo (2006 Trendline). I heard some people say it is an earth problem, but I find it interesting that this often appears to happen after a battery change (I recently changed mine as well).

Please can someone respond, as this is very scary (I have two small kids, and it happened to me at 120km/h on the freeway, and I suddenly lost power steering and was terrified to use my brakes in case they locked up with my kids in the car)?
