Try and find an honest front end specialist if you can.
Or DIY - check for play in the wheel bearing/hub assembly, outer tie rod ends, ball joints, tire wear, alignment.
My 06 X-Trail needed both outer tie rod ends at 120k km. Very easy to check and replace. YouTube can show you how. Probably not on an X-Trail though.

I had a Skoda that made a kind of rattling noise, that developed into a kind of ring bell noise. It turned out to be the dual mass flywheel in the gear box. It was only there when the gears were engaged.
