Have you found the cause of the power surges? I am having the same problem.

Clean the MAF (Mass airflow sensor) - search this on YouTube and you will find many demonstrations on how to do this. That is if by 'surging power' you mean the car will also randomly idle up and down without making a change on the accelerator.
